hooner 0 Posted January 23, 2014 Hi there, Please don't flame me as I am raising a legitimate concern. I was VAC banned last week and I have not hacked the game. I was quite concerned that perhaps my account was compromised so I asked Steam about it, and although they won't give me specifics they said my account was not compromised...see below: "Steam Support is not able to provide such information but can confirm that your account was not compromised.I understand your frustration in this matter; however, our system has confirmed that the ban was applied legitimately. A VAC ban applies to the game(s) regardless of who was using the account or borrowing the game at the time.It does not matter if you let someone use the account, or if the account was being used without your knowledge. It is your responsibility to safeguard your account against such activities. The VAC ban on the game(s) will not be removed." I am Ok to "take one for the team" as I loathe hackers, and understand Steams zero tolerance policy, but worry this maybe due to a bug in the Alpha? I have not modified the game or messed about with any settings. I only had 4 "lives" over 4-5 days playing. Again, please don't flame me, I felt I shodl ask in case this is a wider problem.Cheers
Dr. Goner 661 Posted January 23, 2014 Did you remove .pbo files or use any scripts or hacks available online for the standalone version of DayZ? I'm sorry but VAC has gained its reputation by being very good at what they do. I have to believe that you or someone playing on your machine cheated.
hooner 0 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Hi, No i didn't add/remove/use anything at all, and no cheat system is infallible, if they were they'd stop ALL the hackers, i.e. the ones I saw warping thru walls. Edited January 23, 2014 by hooner
xplosive 5 Posted January 23, 2014 Did you have any other games open at the time, or any 3rd party anti-cheat clients running related to a different game? This happened to me once a long long time ago in Counter-Strike. Not sure if you have heard of ESEA, but it's an enormous community in counter-strike with it's own anti-cheat client that has very frequent updates. ESEA updated their anti-cheat client once and for some reason VAC was detecting it as a cheat and banning accounts. I got VAC banned because of it as well. I went to steam support and explained the situation and apparently I was not the only one that this happened to. They lifted the VAC ban from my account and all was well. Anyway, just sayin, it could be related to 3rd party software that had nothing to do with your game. Ever since then I've learned to basically not have any other programs (other than browsers or instant messengers) open while playing any game on steam. Just in case... you never know.

djporternz 644 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) 1) VAC doesn't make mistakes, ever! 2) Anyway, VAC bans would have to be addressed by Steam/VAC. No one here is/will be able to help you. 3) Good Luck, but see 1) above! PS: If this was caused by a bug in the Alpha, you wouldn't need to come to these forums to hear the screams from the player base.
