redshirt_49 2 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) So I logged in today after a few hour break to discover my character appeared to have been wiped. No biggie. This happens, I know. However after a few minutes I saw that my account name was different. Before my steam account name was used, now suddenly it's my PC name which I figured is probably the cause for the disappearance of my character as there is no avatar under that name yet. So I wonder; is there a way for me to login under my steam account again and thus keep my character? EDIT: Not just my characters were reset btw, my video settings, audio settings, skin defaults. Everything back to Zero. Edited January 23, 2014 by redshirt_49
knifeparty 109 Posted January 23, 2014 I believe your character is reset because the hive wasn't put online as of you logging on.. I have seen a lot of tweets that they are working on it. As for your name, you can now edit it. click on your name at the logon screen and change it as you see fit.
kichilron 8550 Posted January 23, 2014 Use the searchfunction, if I may ask? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154078-sometimes-my-character-doesnt-save-and-i-come-back-as-a-freshspawn/
SprStnd 12 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Use the searchfunction, if I may ask? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154078-sometimes-my-character-doesnt-save-and-i-come-back-as-a-freshspawn/parts of the problem he describes is new, but based on the new location of the profile file i think but thats just a wild guess. You can change your name by clicking on it in the bottom right courner of the games main menu, set your settings back as you know them and exit the game to reload it and test if they did stay. The profile file is now located in the Documents\DayZ folder instead of the "DayZ other profile" folder... at least on me. Note that it will keep its name (windows profile name) even if you change your name ingame. Edited January 23, 2014 by SprStnd

hooge123 0 Posted January 23, 2014 im getting the same issue as you. I think i tried to login while they were doing server maintenance. I tired to copy the data from the <steamname>.vars file to the new <computername>.vars file but whenever I reload the game, it overrites the .vars file. Did you do anything differently? SprStnd 12 Posted January 23, 2014 also the vars file is generated automaticly... not sure exactly by what rules but you only have to change the other of the two files which does not have "vars" in its name normaly. & thx for beans. :D

redshirt_49 2 Posted January 23, 2014 so I did that, and now in the inital loadout screen it shows my original character. However once i join any game, i starts me off with a brand new character.Try the usual character wipe solutions. Don't move and try connecting to different servers. Also try connecting to the last server you'd been to prior to the wipe. If you did try connecting during maintenance as you said that might have wiped you on the hive, which would be unfortunate. themightypebble 0 Posted September 21, 2014 someone should save a good .vars file in a separate desktop file to the DayZ file, copy it and paste it into the forum for other people to use and save onto their desktops.
