"DayZ, this is your story". No story coming, no need to worry.

It's the same story anyway...spawn > go to balota/cherno/elektro > die or do not die > if dead repeat first steps if not > go to NWAF > get weapons > go to coast > KoS > get KoSed > start at spawn...

wouldn't be cool if there was some sort of untold story, though?

like... finding clues or books on what happened, why there is a zombie outbreak, where it started, find clues and hints and reach a place where you can find some sort of laboratory or magic evocation circle (necronomicon!) to explain the presence of zombies.

So nothing like a forced story, but leave it to the player to decide whether to investigate or not.

Hello there

Storyesque elements can be introduced without actually being a "mission".

I too would like to see this, but more as a tool to flesh out the history/background of the environ. Its shouldn't be a treasure hunt for some neat loot.

I would like to have more opportunitys to actionally tell my story in Dayz for example to be able to write my own diarry wich can be looted after death or to have some kind of ID-card wich contains information about me wich i can set upon spawning or something like this.

Finding pieces of paper somewhere with a small "missions" or "quest" note left behind by someone describing what happened and that they left behind something(maybe very vaguely so you don't immediately know what it is) wouldn't be bad actually. Would actually give you an incentive to maybe go somewhere you usually never go. You shouldn't find like mountains of food, guns or ammo or anything. But maybe just a pack with some handy items or a dead player with some nice stuff (good for those not fully stacked yet)

Even when the game finally releases it's going to get boring after awhile as you're fully stacked, have a car, base and helicopter as there really isn't anything else to do after that.

With my group we make our own missions, decide daily where to go and what to do. But maybe the devs have something to tell us as well, without this becoming the main force of the game.

If you don't care, you just ignore it, like many people I play with, on other games, who completely ignore lore, even in lore driven games.

Having a background story would be nice but it shouldn't force players on a path like a normal story of a game would. If they hear news it's up to them if they want to check it out or leave it be.

There are many post-apocalyptic games with a storyline. I just enjoy the ability to make my own story, whether I'll be a friendly survivor or a bandit. The ability to make your own decisions without a storyline holding you back makes DayZ stand out.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to be able to use the already existing paper and pens found around Chernarus to write things on. People could end up writing some interesting entries in a roleplaying perspective.
