I understand what you mean but as the game has no skill levels etc gear is your level so they kinda make things to be better than others and its quite authentic that a can opener opens cans better than a knife hence why we invented them ....

Why the stupid question you answered that you knew what it was when you said you have counters there. as i and many other suggested try doing it in your hands as your character does and see if you spill any ( spill any blood to that is)

Ok if you want to get all logical

If you want to take in all the shaking and nervousness from bandits/zeds, even opening something with a can opener would produce spills in beans.

I will the moment you actually listen to what is being told to you , you were given a reasonable answer and replied with a dick answer. now part of you final reply here is to some point valid ( ps i didnt want to get all logical you did with your first post asking for more realisim when you opened a can using a knife on a counter as you call it kitchen bench in other countries which you knew).

 

Will you spill any beans using a knife on a can holding in your hands most likely yes due to the force required to pierce the can ( it is possible to do without spilling but not likely ) hand shakes and spilling with a can opener possible to spill but you would need to be shaking like a mofo my dad has the shakes ( parkinsons) he can usually get one open without spilling it ..

Is it possible that the precentage of spill is affected by the physical state ur in? ingame that is...after running for a while, being hungry with wounds that havent been cleaned...maybe the spill is larger?

Is that by putting the can on the ground to stabilize it while you go at it with knife and rock.. If so then yes i agree there it isnt hard but that would require a change in mechanics of the game ( which i am not against ) it would need a fairly lengthy animation playing leaving you vulnerable like all in game animations do ( which drives me nuts at times i think id stop bandaging if i saw i was about to be attacked again lol )

 

But that would fit the risk reward idea they try to install eg using this method takes time leaves you vunerable but your reward a full can to eat although the value of the mechanic vs the time it would take to implement would be wasted for very little gain but thats just my opinion.( I may also be mistaking what you mean when opening the can lol )

No reason you couldn't put the can of beans on something in a nearby house, or on the ground. Would work just as well.

Does it really matter? Food is easy to find. Not a big deal but I do find this interesting. Fireaxe would definitely lose some beans but I agree with a knife it's not hard to open a can and lose nothing.

So many of these damned threads.  There are literally a handful(in game) of different things you can open cans with.  Some are better than others.  Deal with it.  Food is not even that hard to find, that a little waste is gonna have you starving to death. :rolleyes:

Do you people actually realize that arguing such a trifle matter is nonsense? opened on the bench or not... opened a can with knife and didn't spill wow.... c'mon dude, if you really want some more realism than the game has tons of things yet to be implemented and would take the top of the list before " adjusting " the can opening with knife or not...

 

and besides... whats the big deal with it? just search a bit in the city or the neighboring cities and you will find a can opener anyway... why the big fuss about it? (please dont say realism now)

What does the percent really even mean? Is it based on volume of the can or the amount of food originally in the can? Either way, can you ever really consume 100% and still be realistic! By volume, how often do you actually open a can and have 100%? Like never. Likewise, one can never really empty a can 100%, not without actually eating the can. Even if one were to lick the can, eww, there will still be residue left behind.

This kind of complaint always gives me a chuckle. The entire system is unrealistic. It is designed to overcome shortcomings in the virtual world, but still hopefully mimic reality. How do you know that can, as pictured, of bean soup is 100% in the game, you assume it is. However, do you ever see the spill in game? So because you don't see the actual spill in game when you use a knife and you opened that can with a knife and are suggesting no spillage was made, then they must be equal. Therefore since the system of percent exists only in game, you must use that in game percent to derive the percent of quantity in reality. You sir cannot have my beans, that can is not 100%.

There should be bean-loss while running with an open can of beans inside of your backpack or other clothes.
