Gamma/Brightness question....

Recommended Posts

I of course use the gamma/brightness trick to see at night like most people...recently i noticed my game isn't bright at night like it used to be. usually the ground, roads and my character will be bright and clear. Now its all blacked out, with only the roofs of buildings, the horizon and sky being highlighted really at all. characters are almost blacked out and impossible to see against the black ground. sometimes the ground is so saturated with dark it appears purplish. this is also happening to the other two people i play with. also it doesn't do it all the time although it is 95% of the time. I know this is basically looked at as a cheat, its so widely used one must look at it as a feature. and ATM this feature isn't working for me so i feel im at a disadvantage....lol.. has anyone ever experienced this issue....or fix it??

I noticed that last night.  But I have also noticed, or thought I noticed, the moon phases affect brightness too.  Or am I imagining things?

Better cheating than getting lost in a house with two rooms. I nearly ate my notebook.

i kinda thought maybe it was something to do with the moon but IDK....i really wish they would just make the nights brighter and colorful...that photoshop of the dayz night that went around was amazing...

The moon, cloud cover and time of day/night will vary brightness.
Even with the gamma trick, it can get super dark at midnight on a cloudy moonless night.

well....i turned off the clouds thinking that may be the problem but i suppose it wouldn't make much difference if there isn't a moon for the clouds to cover..

I hate to rain on the parade i hope ( although i am sure its more to do with that nights particular darkness level) that its not i hope its a fix to gama brightness exploit lol.

I know so many people use it that doesnt make it a feature it just means so many people like to exploit. One day you will need some hair on your nuts(atleaast the ability to grow it lol) to play at night will have to risk your life by using a torch lantern road flare or some external light source lol.

I have a dream where all players let go of the exploiting ways LOL

i would love to play at night without useing the exploit but as it is now its just stupid not to use it....the nights would be the best part if two things would happen...

1. brighten up the night a little and most importantly add some color...i mean yea...night time makes colors dull but it doesn't make things black and grey....

2. do something to stop EVERYONE from using the exploit (though this is probably impossible since you can probably still adjust the gamma and brightness externally of the game)....

Well, my guess is that they changed something in the lighting that makes more colors that where previously dark greys, fall into into pure black.

Raising gamma doesn't effectively make lights brighter, it only adjust how the different levels of light are translated in in screen color, making dark greys lighter and easier to discern from each others.

However you can raise gamma as much as you want, previously unseen details will not come out of pure black.

Not really. We know exactly why there are daylight servers :P

Rocket did mention a long time ago that they intended to destroy this particular glitch - level the playing field between those who know how to use their settings to brighten up their nights and those who do/will not. Here's hoping we're seeing some progress there.

I like my nights to be dark, but like so many others, I use the exploit so that I don't die to someone else who does.

Stop cheating, and deal with it.

Stop cheating, and deal with it.

It's a negative feedback loop dude, so if you play on a night server or one with day night cycles, it's pretty much mandatory.

I don't like to use the gamma trick, but anyone who wants to kill is going to do it, and I'm not going to blindly grope in the dark while XXx360NoScopexXx gets impromptu night vision to precision snipe me while I'm hiding in a bush at midnight.

The workaround we have so far is to play on simply 24/7 daylight servers, which is what I do.

When they fix the gamma exploit I will be insanely happy, but still skeptical. Something tells me there will always be a work around to give e-peen children the unfair edge over others.

I wonder how are they going to fix if I can just turn up brightness on my monitor.

You wouldn't be able to achieve anywhere near the same effect via your monitor...

Even with the gamma trick, it can get super dark at midnight on a cloudy moonless night.

This can also cause some of the 'fade in fade out' of light. You will notice if you go into a building your eyes adjust. The same if clouds go over the sun or you enter a Forrest, your 'eyes' attempt to mimic real life. However there are of course a couple bugs.

I think its rather a game problem. If I am out at night my eyes get used to my environment and I actually see pretty well after a while. That does not happen in Dayz and see nothing at all. I definitely would not use a flashlight in a zombie apocalypse, because I wouldn't have survived in that case.
