Fortune_Finder 33 Posted January 19, 2014 Should you buy the DayZ Standalone Alpha? I highly recommend checking out this video by TotalBiscuit BEFORE you decide to buy it. I rushed into buying it, and can't say I've been playing it a lot, because I've played myself tired with the mod and the standalone really hasn't got new things...... yet. Dean "Rocket" Hall said this about whether or not you should buy it: My opinion For the current game? NoFor the price? No (it will stay this price for some time)To see the game? No (you can watch streams)To participate in development? Possibly Overall, I would not recommend it. But I think in a few weeks, it might go from "possible" to "yes" on the last one. Metalunatic 25 Posted January 19, 2014 Well, alpha is too early for some people. Me, I'm enjoying myself even with the occasional bugs.
byrgesen 1341 Posted January 19, 2014 OR......You could simply read the warning, which are littered all over steam and in the game it self, which state you should not buy the game to play it.Simple as that, it is far from done and BI only recommend buying it, if you want to help test it, not to play. twingunz 308 Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) I like TB and generally agree with him but on this i disagree with him (strongly) buying anything is solely on the consumer especially when it's reinforced that the product is incomplete (it was never stated or even alluded that this is a finished or even working product), consumers have to take responsibility for their choices and it tiers me how people think that because they bought something knowing and warned that it was incomplete and problematic yet still decided to put the money down that it somehow negates their responsibility. People feel far too entitled these days and when they make a bad choice that they feel should be rewarded for it and compensated, i personally don't agree with that way of thinking or TB's analogies and comparisons. I put my money down on this game because i loved dayz mod and wanted to support and be part of the dayzSA if i regretted that choice well thats solely my own fault and looking to put blame elsewhere (to me) is just irrational and failing to take responsibility for my own choices. Yeah true, but people for some reason do not seem to realise this, they buy the game and have too high expectations of it being a finished game. It cannot be stressed enough. Well then you fall into the category whom Total Buiscuit says to go buy the game. He merely convinces those consumers you are talking about to stop and think before mindlessly buying an early access game. DayZ is one of the only games that properly tries to stress that this is not a finished game; this is not apparent with most other early access games. It would be fitting if this was more stressed via the steam model TB is talking about in the video. A lot of people just buys the game because they've seen friends playing it and expect too much of the game and then goes on and complains about the game. If this could be minimized that would be fine.It is the consumers responsibility but for the people trying to cheat their way through developing a game which is not what it claims, it would be nice to have a set of rules.
