But then we would play the thing in open snowy world....

the thing was already made into a video game by konomi in 2002 was a bold attempt that for me pretty much failed in all its attempts but hey thats just me maybe you liked it ???

And I think it would be greater than dayz cuz there would be no such weapons to protect yourself from monsters besides some rare flamethrower and you would depend on someone to protect you...which would bring more horror and terrifying moments...

These guys tryed to make it but failed miserable cuz their ideas were not implemented as they wanted, It's great to have ideas but if are not in the game like you wanted it fails...Rocket knows what he's doing when you look at dayz he implemented almost all his ideas and that's what makes dayz great zombie game he has already game front of him....but look at this unfinished the thing game http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf_syiANha0 Devs said they didn't know how to make transformation in game from character to monster their animation was pretty badly done with pretty bad engine if they had good dev the thing game would be great with open world....

I think it would not be possible at the moment to make a passable multiplayer game of The Thing. As much as I love that film, it wouldn't really work unless it was a single player (perhaps straight co op) and there are too many 'rules' to the situation. I got bored of the 2002 game half way through as it got very generic, completely unlike Carpenter's film (or even the 1951 The Thing From Another World).

"I ripped off the idea for the first film from a Matheson novel called I Am Legend"

-George Romero

Dawn of the Dead was great but I think Romero is given way too much credit...

What's with all these casuals on the forums lately? It's like everyone who complained about WarZ decided to try out SA and brought their forum rage with them to the SA Forums.

Says the guy with one post.  Cute.

I for one would think a conversation between Rocket and a survival expert would be much more interesting.  Say Ray Mears, or that Cody Lundin guy.  Anyone says Bear Grylls, gets a fire ax to the face. :)

It was years ago, back then, it was portrayed as a religious instigation to the masses, "When there's no room in heavan, the dead will walk the earth", (I feel anyway)

The term ZOMBIE has been twisted to whatever means, to achieve a goal., In DayZ terms: It's simplifying the enemy, chemical or biological.

Sorry for saying, but DAYZ will always be about ZOMBIES.

I don't think that even Dean Hall himself can shake off the word zombie, which symbolises George Romero's vision. Which is why I think it would be cool if Dean and George had a chat about DayZ

You do know that rockets initial vision had nothing to do with zombies at all. He wanted to make a pure survival game. It was only later that zombies were added to make the game more "mainstream" and add a constant threat to the player.

I dont mind if the 2 did sit down and chat, but i feel that roeros input would more benefit a linier story based game like the walking dead episodes. With this being a sandbox in witch the player tells the story, there isnt any real storytelling to be done by the devs. And thats where romero shines, tense, suspense packed story telling.

Ah yes, fantastic book. It doesn't make the transition to film too well though (three attempts, all pretty poor). Romero at least brought the 'outbreak' to the screen, like a clash of realities. I Am Legend is closer to DayZ than actual 'zombies' however, a tragedy that Matheson died last year or perhaps he could have met Dean.

I loved Romero's old movies, but he's kinda lost his shine with old age now. His later films focus too much on the gross out gore rather than the human stories and socio-political commentary. Not a fan of his later 'smart' zombies either.

The original Night of the Living dead and Dawn of the Dead are utter classics.

Apparently "survival expert" to you means the guys on TV. Cody Lundin is the guy who refuses to wear shoes.

This is a weird topic.

This is a weird topic.  And yes, he doesn't wear shoes, but he seems like he know what he is talking about compared to some of the other yokels on TV.  I actually think chubby little Ray Mears could out survive most people, just because he knows how to do so many things, with so little.  His extra fat, probably wouldn't hurt either, in the short term.

@Karmaterror, holy f-ing jesus balls, do they not teach English in the UK anymore?

So you want Dean to have a chat with good ol' George?

why doesn't Dean sit down with an actual pc gamer and have a chat about the features that definatly have to be in a successful game?
