sai (DayZ) 137 Posted January 17, 2014 Is there an issue with having them? I would of thought it was free advertisement. I don't really like the ones in now, I understand its russia, but they are bound to have these brands too.
twingunz 308 Posted January 17, 2014 Copyright, mod was free thus copyright is pretty much void (they still could sue if they wanted tho) BUT as soon as Dean takes money which he obviously is for standalone then they would sue the Beanz off of him.
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted January 17, 2014 Copyright issues. They were allowed in the mod because it was free. They tried to contact Heinz and Pepsi and the others but they didn't get a good response. I guess Heinz doesn't want to link their product to murder and all that other fun stuff. floj 393 Posted January 17, 2014 Speak to Branston and Heinz, sell our beans to the highest bidder for product placement :)
fitzee 248 Posted January 17, 2014 Hi. Free advertising? *chucklez* I wish it worked that way. Regards.
antonioajc 500 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) What the people said, copyright issues. Show names on something in which you don't profit for is OK for the companies if they're not in a douchey mood. Edited January 17, 2014 by AntonioAJC
Mdogg2005 447 Posted January 17, 2014 Well I mean Coca-Cola could easily just start stamping "AS SEEN IN DAYZ!" on their cans / bottles. Win / win.
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Why?It's enough i have to watch them on television, should i watch them ingame too? :PEven if we find a way to bypass the copyright violations i don't see any point on having them. funky_mish 75 Posted January 17, 2014 Companies these days are all about controlling their "brand", and I guess they didn't want that brand to be "fuel of the murdering survivalist".

Authenticity. In a game trying to portray real life, having a recognizable brand name product increases the immersion. It's like seeing real models of guns in the game. They could have made some up, but it wouldn't feel the same because when someone see's an M4, they know what it is. When I saw a can of beans or spaghetti for the first time in standalone, i had no idea what they were, I had to read the name. In the mod, as soon as I saw an item it was recognizable. Sure, after playing for a while, I recognize which are beans and which are spaghetti, but that was learned, it didn't come natural. Rocket has always wanted DayZ to be intuitive, if you know what a can of beans looks like in real life, you should instantly know what it looks like in the game. subliminal_city 27 Posted January 17, 2014 Personally I prefer to not have advertisement for existing products in a game that I've bought...it is bad enough that I am subjected to advertisement in real life.

I'll try to find the actual thread about the topic for you. But here is a quote from a Q&A with Rocket... Q: Will Heinz, Pepsi, Coca-Cola etc be in the standalone?A: None of them have returned our calls so I doubt we will see them in game despite our best efforts, unfortunately. We tried pretty hard on this one. It was a tremendous fail, we didn't even get any call backs or replies to emails. I was really hoping we could get something going with Heinz at least. Edit: Here's one of the big threads about the topic... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/119236-no-pepsi-coca-cola-or-heinz-in-standalone/ Edited January 17, 2014 by bad_mojo

soulfirez 901 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) DO you want them to spend the money on making the game better or on the rights to display brand names for generic loot??? Id like brand names but end of the day id rather a better quality dayz (coke would still charge them to use the brand i dont think they would take the advertising well ya never know someone pose it to them lol ) EDIT lol so they did pose it didnt think they would allow it without a good chunk of money lol .. sai (DayZ) 137 Posted January 17, 2014 Dean and BI could make their own type of beans and drinks. More money. (I know unlikely) I know when I was playing metal gear solid 3, I saw calorie mate and wanted to buy them, if they sold it in my shops I would have.
somethingbloody 118 Posted January 17, 2014 Think of the bright side. Now that we have ZUTA CLASSIC PEOPLE'S ONLY CHOICE BEST BEVERAGE OF GLORIOUS CHERNARUS, Rocket can add in hyperglycemia and diabetes if we drink too much without getting in trouble. How's that for authenticity?
blurhitz 244 Posted January 17, 2014 Actually back in the mod times, I was always curious to eat those beans in real life. Heinz has no beans in Brazil, only other products D:
djporternz 644 Posted January 17, 2014 Is there an issue with having them? I would of thought it was free advertisement. I don't really like the ones in now, I understand its russia, but they are bound to have these brands too. They are Brand Name foods. Corporate interests don't see 'free advertising', they only see 'lost revenue'. TBH I'd prefer BI and the dev team to use the money for the benefit of the game, rather than the opportunity to have a brand in game.
djporternz 644 Posted January 17, 2014 Well I mean Coca-Cola could easily just start stamping "AS SEEN IN DAYZ!" on their cans / bottles. Win / win.And then they get their arse sued by someone who sees something in a YouTube video that they take offence over and the player character was holding a can of their product whilst doing it. No Corporate suit is going to want to be associated with a lot of the crap that goes on in this game. Hell, I don't want to be associated with some of those types!
