knyghtfalcon 10 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) After my last encounter trying to help players, I think I'm done being a friendly sniper. I've been helping noobs along the coast, nine times out of ten I get attacked ormurdered. I mean, I try to be nice to people, and I know people complain about the KOS. It's just not working. Being murdered and swarmed by newspawns while I'm trying to hand out food really irks me. So, I think its time I stop playing friendly and start shooting everything that moves. Everyone wonders about KOS? This is the reason. No one is friendly anymore, because you can't be. To the new spawn who got my gear, enjoy! I'll just spawn in and get it back in 30 minutes. It wasn't that big of a deal, I'm just angry at the fact that its impossible to play a hero anymore. Anyone else have thoughts on this? ((For the record, this isn't a "Oh my gosh I'm going to bandit all y'all" thread, its just a discussion on the fact that being a hero seems to just not work, and too many new spawns jump to kill when I'm trying to help. Immersive 121 Posted January 16, 2014 I never have any problems being a hero to newspawns, they never punch me in the face so maybe they just dont like you.
Etherious 907 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) My thoughts? Oh maybe that this is like the 10 Gajillionth thread about how now you gonna be a big o'l mean bandit. Oh dear....everyone cower on Skalisty..(Joke) ;) Edited January 16, 2014 by DJ SGTHornet
Gugolas 228 Posted January 16, 2014 It will be possible again (but always risky) when the game evolves with more features and less deathmatch mechanics, in my opinion.
Tabris07 159 Posted January 16, 2014 Don't become part of the problem. Most of the people who KoS now are people who were murdered by someone in the past. It's a chain reaction that won't end if you think like this. One of the biggest things about being a hero is having the willpower to stay one even when faced with situations like this.
FatKangaroo 72 Posted January 16, 2014 Don't join the dark side! It's evil!
Etherious 907 Posted January 16, 2014 If I give you Pizza Rolls and Hot Pockets will you stay a hero? If not I have coal too :P
knyghtfalcon 10 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) The dark side has cookies! And I suppose the chain reaction of creating more bandits is a thing, but it just kinda bothers me that I haven't found a friendly player in weeks. Too much KOS, but I feel like I'm going to have to join that to stay alive. Best part though, after I died it glitched and allowed me to stay in third person. I saw all the newspawns punching and axing each other for my gear. I had a nice laugh at that. To me though, every newspawn is just a bandit without gear yet, at least from what I've seen. I think I'll go neutral from now on, see how it works out. Edited January 16, 2014 by Knyghtfalcon
FatBoyFish 14 Posted January 16, 2014 Maybe you basically were killed by a spawned bandit. I hate that, no code!

Also, don't forget that not all Bambis are innocent and helpless, some of them are respawned bandits that recently got offed. Chances are that Bambi you're trying to help is actually a bandit who's thinking "look at this guy with all this gear, imma punch him in the head and take it". Either help newspawns by killing bandits (be careful if you're doing this by sniping, someone coming across you might think you're sniping the newspawns) or help the ones that have the sense to move in land. Additionally, you could help by leaving helpful supplies in places near spawn points. As always though, be cautious of everyone. Oh dear....everyone cower on Skalisty..(Joke) ;) Nah, I'm not going to be a 'Big o'l mean bandit', although going neutral is starting to appeal to me. It was a discussion starter, not a rage about dying.
Etherious 907 Posted January 16, 2014 Neutral is better than choosing a side at least. That way you can try best of both worlds, heck maybe even become a contractor. *Wink*
Immersive 121 Posted January 16, 2014 Just play smart. Stuff like this can only happen if you let it. From the sound of it you got your ass whooped by an unarmed bandit, don't turn your back on them ever.
Etherious 907 Posted January 16, 2014 Dem knockout punches can ruin your day......and or thinking you have loaded .357...when it's not. x.x

One of the biggest things about being a hero is having the willpower to stay one even when faced with situations like this.Id say that defines a hero in this game handing out goodies makes you a nice guy for the day rather than a hero. When i feel the urge to play the hero i usually do it by hunting the bambi killers ya know the ones fully armed around the spawn areas hiding waiting.. If i roll into town and feel nice i may drop some stuff for them at a distance but i keep my finger on my 2 key which pulls my pistol lol . Try talking with them before you go father christmas on them a firm friendly aproach i find works better so they know hey he aint going to kill but if i fuck around he will .( made sense better in my head TBH)
Tabris07 159 Posted January 16, 2014 Make sure they have their fists and weapons put away if you're going to make contact with them at least. Just because you want to help someone doesn't mean you have to needlessly put yourself at risk in the process. If anyone draws after you tell them to put their weapons away, then they may intend to harm you and you can act accordingly.
PhillyT 554 Posted January 16, 2014 I don't know where people like the OP are playing, but I meet friendly people regularly. If you let yourself get mobbed by new spawns, you did something wrong.
lommetyv 47 Posted January 16, 2014 The people who have everything & nothing to lose are the most dangerous players you can run into. In best case, avoid these people. Be friendly to people you meet further in-land. As they won't just charge at you with fists or a melee weapon because they ran a long way & actually have some gear to lose. :)
Ranadaine 35 Posted January 16, 2014 Yep, sometimes you get yourself killed while helping. Actually, it usually means that you did not stated clear rules of your interaction (it's you with the gun here, so rules are yours), and that after any of them tries anything stupid you must shoot anyone who is not standing still with weapon sheathed. If you state that and keep your distance everything is okay in most cases. Also, I posted my experience, which, IMO, kind of proves that there are not a lot, but enough really friendly players.Like HERE or HERE and more encounters that I didn't mentioned on forums.
