upcoming optimizations?

Recommended Posts

Hello, this post is by no means saying how bad the game is optimized or what not! Rocket is doing a very good job atm :)

I just want to ask, I have been playing DayZ on a bad computer( with reasonable fps 20~25 ), I know the game is in Alpha so very badly optimized for normal computers. But I would like to ask, when the game IS optimized, what kind of changes will happen to my fps?  Will it increase from 20~25 to 30~35, or stay the same but just more stable?

thank you for taking the time to read and reply :)

Or just drop because there will be much more things implemented?

Who knows. I feel your pain, because I am in an even wordt situation :)

i think they will focus on optimization more in the early stages. however after they've put everything in they'll still be able to optimize the game. we just have to hope that they realize just how important it is that they optimize the hell out of the game!

just imagine playing at glorious 60fps

aah the stuff of dreams

i play at 45-60 fps on a medium rig (i5 4670k, 660 graphics)

On Arma 3 Breaking Point mod ( a bigger map with way more zombies and items) i get constant 60fps

So its doable.

Optimization Comes AFTER alpha...it makes no sense to do this during the beta Phase.

Well, seeing ArmA 2 still kindof killing my PC while ArmA 3 runs perfectly on maxed settings, including 5000 visionrange, i guess everything is possible.

NORMALLY, it gets better and a boost about 10-30% is normal. However, even if that sounds much, in your case you will end up somewhere between 22- 33 FPS, which will still be pretty awful to play ;)

Hmmmmm oh well i just hope there will be atleast 25 stable, I drop to about 20 in cities, 17 if populated server :(

Not expecting them really, its just i've just read a lot of posts saying to be patient since the game isn't fully optimized for bad pc's. just asking about how much it will improve :D

Actually nobody can tell you this. How should anybody know? It could be, they will create some sort of miracle code that improves performance by 1000%, but inbefore that code is written and tested nobody is able even to estimate the outcome. Even if the idea of such a performance improving code exist in some developers head, it could still turn out not to be working as intended because it interferes with some other code in the game the developer has not thought about. A game of this scale consists of lots and lots of code. It is just too complex to predict for sure what happens if you change or add some code. This is actually why there is different stages of development (alpha, beta, release). Testing! Let's say there would be a code already in the game that gives you a 1000% performance boost, but that code in some very rare cases causes the game to crash and delete your character. You simply don't know until somebody experiences (tests) that. We are all humans, even developers are humans, even if some of them think and/or pretend they are not ;)

I would expect that performance will not change a great deal for users with lower spec PCs, while users with higher end PCs will notice more stability and hopefully better performance overall.

I'm just speculating though. We won't know until the job is done.

You probably won't find any concrete answers when it comes to that, optimization is a slow process normally and hard to predict when your not the dev how well it will improve performance but what you do have to go on so far, Dean has done nothing on optimizing the client so when they do get round to optimizing it which IMO is so far not a priority then you will likely see a little bump in FPS or more likely a smoother performance.

Hello there

We or the devs would have to be insane to "promise" xx amount of fps increase/decrease.

We will just have to wait and see.

Im guesstimating (hoping) that Ill be able to run it as well as I run Arma3. But That's just a guess! And we have no way to tell, it really is far to early.

Optimization can be analogous to putting a coat of wax on a new car.  You must wait until the car has been manufactured and painted before you can polish the final product.

Im confused. So if the progression is Alpha, Beta, Release, You are saying that it comes after Release?

Most Games I have been go for continual optimization, and hit graphical optimization after the middle of beta.

I just want them to fix how they render buildings. I shouldn't be rendering a building I can't even see yet. :|
