Melee weapons clumsy?

The bat's useless, zombies can't pitch

And their fielders keep crowding the plates. But with bases loaded and bottom of the 9th, I'd rather have the bat than the ball.

Exactly. Melee weapons should be difficult to use, but do massive damage when they hit, especially the larger ones, like the shovel and the pipe wrench. A shovel in full swing is a hell of a sight, and can remove limbs if used with the proper force and angle of attack. I have a WW2 issue E-tool that (I have been told by the previous user) has easily removed Japanese heads in CQC.

Also, the ax works best from the "lowered" position. Gets on my nerves when I've got my gun out, switch to the ax for a zed and my character is holding it straight up in front of him like a goof.

The axe's range seems way too short, you have to be hump the zombie before you swing to get a hit.
