Why is the goal; servers able to support 150 players?

Recommended Posts

I think 150 would be a complete clusterfuck TBH, not sure I'd enjoy that. What I am sure of is that 40 players are not enough for Chernaplus, it feels like you're in a mod server with 10 players as soon as you get off the coast. Can't wait until we're running with at least 60.

Have to agree, anything above 70-80 players would screw the game over and make it into one giant pvp fight, nothing else.

You should run into players, but it should not be every 2-3 mins, and thats exactly what would happen if we had 150 players on a server.

Imagine Cherno or Elektro, if theres 50+ players in thoose cities, clusterfuck as Mo1ey says hehe

I'm fairly sure Dean's suggestions of 100+ player servers were also based on this original plan of having maps beyond Chernarus where more seasoned players could migrate using boats or helicopters.

Until the map is expanded, more than 50 players would basically turn the game into a meat grinder.

Yeah, in no way is 40 enough.  It is just too limiting of the possible situations that would be fun to experience every now and then.

Honestly, I think we could stretch a fair bit higher than 50 with no worries. 30 was my sweet spot in the mod, so I'm by no means a fan of the "meat grinder". I like my player encounters to be relatively few and far between because it keeps the game suspensful, but right now I just don't see anyone unless I'm in a super-duper-hotspot like a coastal city or the NW airfield.

Me and my friend did a bit of people watching for maybe 30 minutes from sniper hill in Elektro in a 40/40 server and we only saw maybe 5 people the entire time.

I think we could easily have 60-80 players on the map without it feeling too crowded. Maybe a few more if and when Utes island is added.

I think 100 could work on the Chernarus map, assuming open release has dozens/hundreds of zombies roaming alone and in packs, in cities and across the countryside. People will be frequently running into each other, yes, but it also means that there will be that much more general chaos. That, to me, adds to the feel of games like this. To be able to run/crawl into a city and see any of a few dozen different scenarios unfolding as a result of other players - either playing alone or interacting. Can you imagine the coastal cities when there's so many zombies around that a sniper can't afford to make more than one shot before haring off to a different mountain to avoid being dogpiled?

150 with the new northern areas sounds like empty houses everywhere and extremely unpopulated servers with ridiculous amounts of loot.
