gamer222 86 Posted January 14, 2014 How about that we have some kind indicator for smell... For example you walk towards some village and before 30 min someone was killed there and your characters indicator for smell tells you that you can smell dead body's, or you can smell someone's cooking food in the area or you smell someone's poop lol (being sarcastic) or can old food etc... I don't think this would change the game in some point but it would put more realistic way of dayz...
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 14, 2014 I don't think dead bodies start to smell instantly. :S IMO the sense of smell is something that just can't be replicated in an authentic manner inside of a game.
marsmars 155 Posted January 14, 2014 that might be a bit too realistic? Also it will take away any elements of surprise
gamer222 86 Posted January 14, 2014 I know it's so hard to code that and yeah its little bit too realistic...
Wh1spY 110 Posted January 14, 2014 that might be a bit too realistic? Also it will take away any elements of surpriseWord, It would be a cool feature for a open world single-player game tho, like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.Btw, how did campfires work in the MOD? Could you see the smoke from the fire on a distance?
lommetyv 47 Posted January 14, 2014 No, campfires were not very noticable at day. The smoke was very limited. But you didn't want to light a campfire at night... Atleast in popular areas of the map. ;)
Zollicoffer 200 Posted January 14, 2014 I mentioned something like this earlier, off of someone else's suggestion for an "intuition" system (that was basically a morality system but we'll not get into that). After a certain amount of time (say ~1 hour), if a corpse is indoors or within a certain radius outdoors, on entering you will get a message that says something about it. The messages could be used for other things as well. Any kind of detail that wouldn't make sense to render a graphic for, but mostly smell. Campfires, vehicles, etc. This way it would take advantage of a mechanic that already exists for other things.
okiimatsu 56 Posted January 14, 2014 not a bad idea actually. it could add an interesting dynamic. this sense could reveal smoke from campfires, smoke from downed choppers to guide you to their locations. the recent smell of gunfire, exhaust from vehicles, water sources. maybe even the smell of someone blowing ass because they ate too many beans. just follow your nose, it always knows.but alas it would take them a year to code it right. and probably would'nt work out as ideally as we would like. Zollicoffer 200 Posted January 14, 2014 I really doubt it would be too complicated to code. In the corpse smell example I gave, they already have the indoor/outdoor variable, that they use for temperature. Other than that, it would mostly just be radius area & timer to object, execute message x on enter. I could be wrong though, I'm not at all familiar with the engine's inner workings. wgaf 251 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) One very cool idea, involving the coming urination/defecation system is that zombies would be attracted to the dung and urine. If you crapped all over the town, or wherever you make your camp, it would eventually attract a lot of zombies. Also, if you soiled yourself, it would attract zombies to you personally. Also, one of the coolest features of the mod was the flies that buzzed around corpses. There should be annoying flies that buzz around dung too. gamer222 86 Posted January 14, 2014 I know it's so hard to code that cuz how you can program something to shows you what other players did in some areas ...like okiimatsu said what if you could smell gunpowder from firefights, but not to show you like where smell is coming from just to give you small details message that it happened there in that area something like there was shooting here not long time ago just for awareness but I think it would give big advantage of finding people in the area and especially if you could smell campfire or cooking food it would definitely change dynamics of the game... I thought they were attracted to blood? How about this, Zombies are in fact after your intestines and as soon as they rip you apart they look for the remaining poo in your body? I believe the game could hit the 2 million copies sold mark if it was written on Steam store page.
soulfirez 901 Posted January 14, 2014 Hmmm there are a lot of factors to consider prevailing winds time this smell lasts strength of the smell ( eg can you really smell it etc etc) the base idea may be ok but i am getting the feeling some people believe there character to be well gifted like a dog. There are reasons man kind has been using dogs for hundreds and hundreds of years they have senses far greater than our own .I use a dog when i hunt he can smell way better than me track way better than me he can hear way better than me and is trained not to bark like an idiot but signal me of him sensing something. Actually can we add dogs into the game id like a survivour dog as a hunting partner lol ....
