More than 1 Character?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I would enjoy to play more than 1 character. 1 for the survival feeling and KoS to sirvive and eliminate threat and one to help other players.

Too many ways it could be abused. In WarZ people keep two characters close to each other for easy revenge kills...

If you have more than one life, you lose the value of life...... oh dear x character is dead, lets just use character Y

No way man.. the thrill of the firefight would be eradicated! At the moment that thrill comes from knowing that if you die.. you're dead.

Please use the search function, already suggested before, it could simply abused easily, have multiple characters, put down a tent in one spot, loot all the area where you spawn, put the items in the tent, switch to main character and get all the items, you could gear easily, and overstock on many items.

not an argument if you would implement a block for the two characters (yes, only two, not more) from joining the same server in x hours (more than 1 restart and you're fine)

this argument in it's full form does not derive from "multiple characters" but from "ability to store items", together with what I wrote above it falls completely flat

I have yet to see a convincing argument against having two characters with the mentioned inability to have them on the same server within x hours of time.

I have yet to see an example of how this would be so horribly abusable that could not very, very easily be fixed.

Try me.

There wont be multiple characters in DayZ besides when playing on hive servers. No arguments needed, its simple. No.

and this is why democracy is a fundamentally flawed system - stupid majority trumps smart minority in it

First of all, it's not a democracy at all. Nobody's voting on anything. We're just discussing ideas and the developers don't decide what to do based on how many people agree or disagree with an idea.

Secondly, it's super convenient in this case that "smart minority" just happens to mean "people who agree with me." Do you find that's usually the case? I bet you're always one of the "smart minority" in your view of the world.

Multiple characters trivializes death. Period. That's the only argument that needs to be levied against this idea. It is a non-starter. It lets people have a "screw around" character that they don't care about and they can just hop on and act like a jackass with no regard for their own survival. If you want to run around acting like an idiot, you should have to do it on your one and only character and deal with the consequences of your actions.

Democracy or no democracy, the developers are not going to implement multiple characters. You can either take time to think about the reasons why, or just cross your arms and be grumpy about it, but I promise you the problem here is not that everyone else is stupid and you're super smart.

You completely misread me, I know that's easy when you're one of the common ones regarding intelligence. I did not actually say _this_ was a democracy, did I? Note especially the last two words in my post.

Regarding your "only argument that needs to be levied":

People either way can "screw around and act like a jackass".

And you fail to actually show why this would be a bad thing, you basically handwave it, making in fact not an argument but a claim - what's bad about people being able to enjoy the game the way they want to play, which includes occasionally changing the style of play?

Sorry, we're not all schoolchildren who can play at the same time as our friends, nor do we only have one friend to play with but maybe several groups.

It's up to you to decide if it's worth the effort to coordinate with your friends and group up with them. If you don't play at the same time all the time, agree to a common meeting spot and try to return there at the end of your play session. If you can't be bothered to to do that, then maybe it's not so important to you that you play with your friends after all?

This is part of the social experiment that is DayZ. What's more important to you, being able to play alone and do whatever you want whenever you want, or the safety, security and added fun of having your friends around? Currently in the game, that's a choice you have to make, and it's an interesting one. It makes you think about things and weigh your options and make a decision; if the developers implemented multiple characters you wouldn't have to think about anything at all. Hooray! Now you have a "with friends" character and a "solo" character and your problems are solved but in a completely artificial, uninteresting and vapid way.

Right. And if they have multiple characters, they don't actually have to deal with the consequences of their actions. They can act like a jackass, get killed, and then return the next day to their fully-geared, uninjured and healthy "main character" which is total bullshit.

If you act like a jackass and get killed, you should be dead and have to start over on a fresh character. Period.

I've considered buying two dayz keys for this purpose, because I play with several unaffiliated individuals and groups and I spend a vast amount of time traveling to meet up with different people.

infestation allows 5 characters and item storage, yet death is just as gripping when it happens; personally I would like to have 2-3 characters because just like in infestation, I play with friends. I like to have a character close to them geared in the way that best fits the group, but when not playing with them, I'd like to gear a little different, and not worry about loosing group assets. multiple characters is a matter of convenience. it takes just as long to pillage items for each character you have so its not giving and real advantage or exploitation options. just a little more convenience.

Ah thank you for saying this, I wanted to make the following point before but it would have seemed like jumping to conclusions back then, or like putting words in your mouth.

So your problem is that when one character dies one could switch "to a fully geared one" and keep playing. So your problem is equivalent to item storage - if you had a storage and only one character you could just go to the storage after dieing and immediatly have a "fully-geared, uninjured and healthy" character.

Also you miss that one still has to spend time to get all that gear - and even twice now, since you have two characters. So that seems rather fair to me ... if there was a problem, it would be (as said) with item storage and not with the two characters.

It's just a bad idea. Accept the possibility that everything you want isn't correct.

True enlightenment is being able to hold separate ideas in your mind at the same time.

its a good idea, just like SoWeMeetAgain said. and its nothing you can't already do by having characters on different shards or multiple copies of the game; but having multiple characters on the same account just makes it more simple for those who want to use multiple characters. the key thing I keep seeing people say is that if you die you can just load onto your other geared character and trudge on like its no big deal, and I don't think they realize how inaccurate a statement that is. first of all, if you had more then one character, the other character is where ever you left them which is rarely near to where you want to be. and your still left with issue of a new spawn character that you need to find items for. I'll agree that its a slippery slope between offering options of convenience and lessening the impact of player death. that is not to say an appropriate balance cannot be met

i think being able to use more than one character would be good. im currently in a predicament where i play with a friend and while it is fun trying to locate each other i would prefer to have a fresh spawn that i could designate as a character i can play alone with so that my existing character remains in proximity to mu friend fro when we net play together.

No, multible characters = permadeath isnt scary anymore.

The tension 1 life gives, cannot be replaced by anything else and is most certainly one of the most important features of this game.
Give more characters and people wont care if they die, not to mention the "demand" to get global inventory and crap like that.

Theres a reason this didnt work in other games, such as WarZ, you have one life, one character.
Treasure him and keep him safe :)
