Aiming a weapon - looking down the sight

OK this is a stupid question, but I cant figure out how to do it.  I got my first mosin, I have it in first person mode and I hit RMB to aim. The view only zooms in a little and does not put the weapon up to my eye so I can line up the sights and aim precise.  Anyone know what im doing wrong?

Extra tip: if you ever find a "Long Range Scope", right clicking will hold the scope up to your eye, then holding right click will zoom in even farther. This only works on the Mosin.
