Combat Logging -,-

Recommended Posts

After a good 15-20 hours of surviving, I was finally powerful. I had some military gear, [ A U.K. assault vest and a ballistic helmet] a fully ''pimped'' mosin [ Pu scope, bayonet, bipod] with another 75 bullets in my inventory and a revolver with some ammo. Everything was perfet. I hit the North East Air Field and killed a couple guys, one of them being a bandit. Logging back a couple hours later, I go to the airfield again, in hope for a long range scope, but then I spotted a couple bandits that shot down a guy. I aim down my scope and hit one of them. They immiadetely head in the prison building. After I wait, I decide to head in. Both had combat logged. After a bit of looting I head down, and one of the bandits had logged in again, and was camping the stairs. '' Pew pew'' and the black screen pops out, giving me the message we all hate: You are dead.

Fucking Combat Loggers >:/

So have you guys ever been killed by a combat logger/server hopper?

Yeah I've killed a combat logger, it was so satisfying.

i saw him up in zolinchy, the military base there, I saw him out the prision window.

" hey there champareeno whatcha doing there ?" I told him.

Insta-dc

A minute later I'm looting the upper floor, and I hear reloading. Someone spawned in. I look out the back room door and see the same guy spawned in. i have no mercy for hoppers and I blast his face off.

Get used to it, its a mechanic thats here to stay

Why should it? I think there's nothing wrong with implementing a ~30 second timer that lets you leave when you waited. Or maybe even make it so people die when they log off after they got damaged by another player for 2 minutes. I haven't played yet, I just bought it, so maybe I am expecting false things, but yeah, just so you know.

This is why I play on private hives only in the mod, no combat logging and no ghosting. The problem is, as long as Rocket keep to his idea of being able to take your character to any server and continue playing on there, this ghosting will continue to occur.

Combat logging is easy to fix, just implement the same logout system MMO has been using for ages or Epoch have implemented, a 10 to 30 seconds timer. Your character have to be out of combat and wait 10 to 30 seconds before logging out. If you ALT+F4 then your character will remain in the game for the next 30 seconds and can be killed.

Possible solution for ghosting can be to restrict your in game position to servers, so if you go to a new server your character will spawn on the coast or the last position you were at before logging out on that server. But this will force game servers to have an additional database for all the players position, even if players are no longer active.

But solving combat logging will at least solve half the ghosting problem, it will still be possible but much much harder to pull off, at least in my opinion.

there are a lot of games that have this already implemented and it works, i cant see why it wouldn't. good suggestion +1

Confession time. I spent five hours gearing yesterday morning.  I was in Berenzino and found two fully geared dead bodies.  Really strange I though.  One was over looking the construction site.  I assumed he got sniped moving  and the sniper was still nearby.  So I go and lay down behind the little wall next to the orchard and was watching his body.  I call my buddy to come and get geared up.  While laying there for ten minutes ( he was down in MCTA) these four guys in full military gear surround me like ninjas (I was stupidly moving things around in my inventory).  They ask me if I am alone.  I said yes.  They ask what I am doing.  I said I was watching the body over next to the house.  They asked if I killed him.  I said no.  I then hear the sound of hand cuffs.

I logged off.  I was a bitch.  I felt guilty immediately.  I just couldn't bear the thought of losing my gear since the last two geared guys I had were reset by the game.  I have learned a lesson though.  It wasn't fair to those guys and it left me with some questions.  Who were they?  Were they hunting bandits? Were they the guys killing people (they had all the gear they needed after all so could have left the guns on those bodies), what might they have done to me?  They easily could have killed me after all, and chose not to.

Don't log folks, it ruins the damn game.  I won't be doing it again.  I'll die like a man.  I can gear up quickly enough to have fun now anyway.

Oh my God don't say things like that. No, it's not. I'm fairly certain Dean has already talked about this, he just hasn't implemented the system yet.

Im hoping the devs decide to add a proximity logout into the game....where If you've fired a shot, been shot at, aggro'd or came into a close proximity of a player not on your friendslist then you cannot log out for a set period of time.

Wrong thread.

Combat logging is what is meant when people say "discretion is the better part of valor."

Oh thank god this thread was old I honestly thought some one had made a thread complaining about something that should shortly be a little bit fixed.

.. little bit at least, the moment some one D/C's on me I become so fucking Paranoid you'd think I just spent 90 years in jail holding the soap for every second... I won't loot the area more so I will pull back a bit let them log back in and see if I can nail their ghosting bulls*** D***s to the ground.

Next patch is going to have 30 second logout timer, i think its going to be improved later on for combat. Also there will be new server queue system if you keep hopping servers.

Don't worry about these problems, they will be fixed but it can take some time to test and add features.

I think it's the steam noobs that are combat logging the most.

They're too attached to their gear, and don't have good DayZ etiquette.

what do you mean "steam noobs"? i play through steam, in fact i play almost all my games through steam. i don't combat log, you musent generalize mate. you might offend people.

please don´t post rants about this anymore, its getting annoying

please dont rant about a rant, its getting annoying.

What is? Combat logging or the fact it will be fixed? If you mean combat logging then no, it is not here to stay. You are sorely mistaken. I will look forward to your bitching about anti-combat logging mechanics as they are implemented and improved.

This is common place why are we posting threads about it?

I met a combat logger, stayed in the same area he logged back in and killed me.

@op; I'm curious how you knew the guy you killed was a bandit?  Did you see him killing someone?  Also, curious how you knew it was the same guy if you had killed him, he wouldn't be wearing any of the same gear.

Old thread but still just as fun to post in.

It's a mechanic that will stay until this next change goes through and after sub-hives get set up.  Sorry but that's in no way an intended aspect to the game.

Same way Frankie identifies everyone as a bandit, but still claims he isn't one.  Everyone that isn't someone you actually know outside of the game, is a bandit in DayZ.  Some may not kill you, they may handcuff you and take your stuff, leave you be; some may feed you disinfectant.  Others will "take you prisoner" to "not kill you", and then make a game out of letting you go later and trying to kill you.  So yeah, everyone's a bandit :P

No its not, Dean has stated that they will introduce mechanics to ameliorate the situation.

^I don't think that's very fair to quote a pretty old comment and tell them they are wrong haha.

Of course they are wrong. That's before the upcoming patch was announced that will deal with this lol.

But anyway, i'm pumped for the 30 second anti-combat logging mechanic and the server hopping penalty timer stacking each time you try to hop to more servers.

Good riddance to both forms of scumbags.
