Faster uphill running!

Recommended Posts

Most of the small incline hills my buddy and I come across seem to be a struggle for our characters to run up. We both find ourselves saying "I could easily run up that in real life".

I think it's a great mechanic that forces you to slow down when going up a steep hill, but not a small incline that most of us could run up :). Perhaps a little silly with all of the other great suggestions floating about, but it would be nice to see a change in the long future.

Thanks.

Certainly could be done faster with your hands free.

Also maybe without that massive backpack rammed full of stuff on your back. xD

I agree, nobody would walk that slow up a hill, makes the gameplay slow....

That's not so bad, running with your hands free in real life would allow you to lean forward more and use your hands to stabilize your ascent.

Going up a steep hill without using your hands however is just as slow, if not slower than it is in the game currently. As you run a high risk of either faceplanting if you lean too far forward, or fall over backwards from the heavy backpack.

I actually think the most realistic first person movement I've ever seen in an FPS was Miasmata. You could run fairly fast up steep hills, provided you got a running start, then you'd slowly lose speed, and eventually start stumbling back down.

If you ran too fast down hills you ran the risk of falling as well.

Slowing down gradually when running uphill, and sliding on your bum, after a fast run donw hill, with a chance of ripping your clothes, unless it`s a rock you slide on, and then you start bleeding and tear clothes for shure.

I would love to see my character or another player's face plant and roll down a very steep hill after trying to sprint down it with a full load of gear. lol Cracks me up just thinkin bout it. Scoped in on a guy going full speed down hill head over heels till he hits a bush or a tree to slow him down. I don't think I'd even try shootin at him after that.

Would feel bad for the guy as well, while laughing my ass off)

The most realistic running would be done in the following manner (pay close attention!):

instead of having the walking mode, running mode and the sprinting mode, HOW ABOUT having a continual scale with the complete range of running intensity!

Such as: 0% - standing still, 100% - full sprint, and everything in between.

IE. I am currently running with 56,98176% of my full sprinting capability based on how much food I ate, how dehydrated I am, how many vitamines I took recently, what incline I am running on, what weight of my backpack is, if my hands are full or empty, am I injured, is it a full Moon and what my horoscope for the given day is!

This is golden right here, mr Dean. Try to keep up! Take notes so you don't miss on something.
