marsmars 155 Posted January 8, 2014 We have this topic about best way to lose a zombie that's chasing you: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162909-best-way-to-lose-zombies-that-are-chasing-you/ But how about other players? Say you are unarmed, what's the best way to run from: 1) A player carrying a gun? 2) A player with a melee weapon? Will different players have different speeds based on health/how much they are carrying/etc?
s1rGr1nG0 81 Posted January 8, 2014 Not sure if you can. What's to stop THEM from keeping up the chase? If they have a gun they will just shoot you in the back. If its a melee weapon I would guess the best thing to do is turn and fight them, (as long as you have a weapon as well). Otherwise just pick a direction and run. See how long they are willing to waste their time chasing you down.
weparo 613 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) The prick's will tell you to log...The obvious will tell you to shoot them... Or you might just try to break the line of sight and run as far as you can. EDIT : Yeah, well don't just go straight running. Enter a town or an area with low visibility, and take random 90 degree turns, and see if they can keep up. (most don't) Edited January 8, 2014 by Weparo
Rantanplan 18 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Gaming the system may be to run toward them and punch them while running in circles around them.(Edit: you see the honest player I am, logging doesn't even come to my mind :) ) Running away, from a gun:zig-zag toward cover (1st prio) or concealment (2nd prio) from melee:If you have a bit of distance you may try to climb a ladder and maybe exploit by attacking at the moment when he comes up to you but has not yet his weapon in hand again. But this may put you in a trap, with no route to escape.Alternatively pick up some zombies on the run - they may give him something else to do and buy some distance between you and him. angry pineapple 44 Posted January 8, 2014 Lose them? Ohhh I don't do that.... Make sure your character is healthy...then just string them along! If they look like they are about to give up the chase stop and give them hope! Eventually their character will be dehydrated and hungry - then find the nearest zombie! Good fun for all. Note: make sure that you've got the following critical equipment. 1. Pink baseball cap2. Yellow rainjacket (or orange shirt)3. No pants4. Every inventory slot filled with books (just in case they do kill you they can enjoy the loot)

Otis.Driftwood 204 Posted January 8, 2014 Today i was chased by 3 fully armed bandits who said that they will not hurt me. First they shot me and knocked me out, handcuffed me, took all my items and gave me blood to regain conscience. After that i was so pissed that i started attacking them with my fists and ofc they shot me. Can you escape by logging out of the game?

Every inventory slot filled with books (just in case they do kill you they can enjoy the loot) I guess running for 2 hours straight isn't a good way to go.But I can tell you one thing - Don't be scared of any meele weapon, besides knives and the axe. If they have any other weapon, lets say a baseball bat, fire extinguisher, or whatever, just freaking punch them. I got chased by 2 people with meele weapons, and in the end both of them were unconscious. Go 1st person, try to punch slightly over their head - win. Just watch out for people with motorcycle helmets, they're immune against that.
MystoganXIX 78 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) A recent video on youtube has proved that playing pornography over the mic near other players is a good way to deter them. Of course you may attract a certain type of person that... you really would not want to play with. Edited January 8, 2014 by MystoganXIX
(TMW) Merino 507 Posted January 8, 2014 The one advice I can give you is that if you decide to run, make sure you do so with your fists raised before you double tap W. It's 16% faster than with your fists lowered.
Ubernaut 297 Posted January 8, 2014 Remember that you run a lot faster with your weapon put away. A pursuer is not going to want to put his weapon away. I lost a guy in Elektro once who immediately started attacking me with a crowbar. I had a bat out, but he'd already gotten in a few licks, so I stowed it and started sprinting. I ended up being a good deal faster than him, and after rounding a few corners, I found a bush to crouch in. He quickly lost interest. If you're dealing with someone who has a firearm, the best thing you can do is be a hard target until you can get behind something. Then just keep going. Nanoha 37 Posted January 8, 2014 From my experience you most definitely run slower with a weapon drawn. I can't say for sure if this also includes melee weapons as I usually have a gun out but the speed is significant. If one person had a gun out and sprinted and another sprinted unarmed you would quickly see the unarmed one gaining distance. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with melee also. Against melee just sprint away in a straight line, 90 degree round buildings where possible, confuse them with some back track. You could also run thought houses if the doors are open, it's usually more awkward to go through when carrying a weapon. You may also notice that you can close the doors while you are running through, that should help also. Against a gun, zig zag like a mad man and pray. mySoup117 9 Posted January 8, 2014 Ok, this requires some skills (apparently I don't, so 9/10 I used this technique failed, if it works, GODLIKE!!!) put away anything in your hands, have bare fists. (they/he/she is now approaching) - when doing this, be sure to find an angel that you don't get shot easily raise your fists once (Space bar), then put them down - you sprint faster, not so sure how much, but you do get faster. since they/he/she have/has a weapon in hands, they are slower than you, no doubt Flank them/him/her using buildings/trees/bushes and ready to engage fast - make sure they/he/she lose/loses sight of you for a short while (even 1 second is enough) change to 1st person, sprint toward them/him/her - still, make sure this is at a surprising angel and speed, so go Z- or S- sprinting instead of straight line. use your fists, punch the one with a gun (yes, with a gun, or melee weapon that WILL KILL YOU REALLY FAST) ON THE FACE (that's why 1st person) - you only have one chance, and you may fail, but have some faith) If you made it, you would knock him/her down - stay calm, one more step then you are legendary check his/her backpack, and double-click the weapon (faster than dragging, make sure you have space) (usually in the top "equipped" section) and ammo (if possible) into your inventory - you are almost there *if the situation is not so harsh - no enemy (the guy's teammate) trying to kill you, no zombie, then loot him/her more for ammo, medicine or food. GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE, find a place to bandage/check what you've got Now if you are playing safe (which I don't think so since you just did that), log out or go away (trust me, that guy won't have the guts to chase you anymore) If you want to be a legend, take up his/her weapon, and chase him/her down. P.S. very low rate of success, extremely dangerous when enemy has teammate and you don't (if you do, it gets easier since both/all of you are doing so), and, WILL MAKE YOUR DAY and RUIN HIS/HERS LOL
Gerandar 212 Posted January 9, 2014 if the player has something in his hands, put your fists up and balls to the wall run at him(dodge if you are less of a man and can not tank bullets) then mike tyson your way to his gear.
razgriz93@gmail.com 228 Posted January 10, 2014 If they follow you with a shovel turn around and punch them to death.I did that once and worked perfectly.
Hosty 647 Posted January 10, 2014 Do this: Raise fists, sprint the shit out. When you have your fists raised you somehow run faster than not having them raised. This only works for fists and not for knives/axes/etc.
sobieski12 835 Posted January 10, 2014 People just combat log, so yeah.* Either make the 1st shot count or people will just simply just combat log. There is no such thing as honor in this game.

Guns thought zig zag but never at the same time make it random other wise you are wasting your time a good bandit will see your patten and bang your dead

This only works for fists and not for knives/axes/etc. one caveat for this tip you slow down on even mild slopes to a crawl this way, if you are running in the hills fists down gives you more speed overall
DKR 104 Posted January 10, 2014 My suggestions :If they're just armed with a melee weapon...just sprint away from them. They have a melee weapon. They have to be up close to you. Keep running. They'll lose interest eventually because they can't catch up. If they're armed wit a gun, then your have a few choices. 1. Log > It's a bullshit move and you'll receive no respect from the community for it. Even death in DayZ can be a thrill ride. Own it. Embrace it.2. Find SOMETHING to break line of sight between you and the assailant. A fence...rocks...trees...houses. Anything. Use 3rd person to your advantage to monitor the assailant's movement and move around the rock/wall/building as they come around. It's all about breaking line of sight, and when you have an eye on their location and which direction they're looking, you can determine the best time to make a break for it and get the hell out of there.3. Run in zig-zags. It'll improve your chances of survival when being shot at.
