faramon 66 Posted January 8, 2014 Pretty simple is there some kind of rough distance direct communication vocal or typing is seen?
Redwolf (DayZ) 125 Posted January 8, 2014 I remember something about the voice fading gradually and cutting off at 80 meters. But I am not sure. I too wish someone can clarify this.
Mopp_94 29 Posted January 8, 2014 I'd like a more accurate representation too to be honest, me and some friends were following a guy out of elektro yesterday and trying to call out to him over mic. He cant of been any further than around 70-100 metersish away but he wasn't replying or responding at all
Khad (DayZ) 293 Posted January 8, 2014 My personal problem is, that the chat is always way to quiet. The sound-options are on the max for sure, but I was never able to understand someone without many focus on his voice.
wild_man 4442 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) maybe have system where you can make volume high or low ;) so if guy is 80 metre away you put volume to shout level so he hear but you don't need to shout in real life confuse the neighbour if guy is in same room put to whisper so nobody can hear 5 metre + distance maybe 5 level #1 whisper - 0m - 5m#2 quiets talk - 0m - 10m#3 normal talk - 0m - 25m is default one?#4 shout - 0m - 50m#5 loud shout - 0m - 100m have simple 2 key toggle system +/- distance I put is example maybe not perfect but give idea   Edited January 8, 2014 by KoS
Korsbaek 1778 Posted January 8, 2014 I've heard it has been decreased to around 20 meters. It was 45 in the mod, which was a lot better in my opinion.
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Rule of thumb or estimate is about 80 meters. But MAYBE that changed! Don't quote me on that, if you can, try it out yourself in the game with a pal or stranger. Also, it is advised to have both the in- AND output to high. That way you speak as clear (or loud) as possible but also hear anyone else, too. Both can be set in the sound options of the game. This does not take your microphone volume as set by the system in effect, however. One should also check that value and adapt as necessary. Also, VOIP quality drops a bit. Your input is not the same as the output. In general it should still have enough quality though. Even if it could be a bit better. My knowledge came from Arma II.It should be increased a bit. What is the use of yelling "FRIENDLY" when the guy with the gun 30 meters away can't hear shit. wolfsburg62 66 Posted January 8, 2014 80 meters is pretty far, you'd have to shout. Seems legit

vampiricmaniac@hotmail.co.uk 19 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) I think it needs to be increased ever so slightly. I seem to find that unless your standing very close its way too quiet. Arguably the current distance is authentic but that may not be for the best, otherwise the misinterpretation of the other person not being friendly is easier to assume. faramon 66 Posted January 8, 2014 Cool, thanks guys, at least this gives me a better idea .. I honestly didn't know if it was something ridiculous but up to 80m max (probably 40m) is a good idea to go on.

What is the use of yelling "FRIENDLY" when the guy with the gun 30 meters away can't hear shit. This is my problem with seeking people out. You have to get way too close for comfort. In my opinion this contributes to the whole killing everyone mentality. If your in 20m that is enough time to have enough to time run up and axe a person or just empty their m4 into you which I'm pretty sure is quite effective at 20m with the unlikelihood of decent cover around as you have to leave your cover that is just over 20m for them to even hear you. dallas 5195 Posted January 8, 2014 Thought it was 45 for text and 100 for voice.
Ynneead 20 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Thought it was 45 for text and 100 for voice.not in my experience. If I'm talking to a player that's further than across the street i cannot hear/understand a word they say.. which in the past made it very hard to loot with people as we could be in the same building but on different floors or different ends of the completely unable to hear eachother Edited January 8, 2014 by Ynneead
