Base Building & Farming in DayZ

Recommended Posts

BASE BUILDING

•Don't Add actual structure building, like towers and apartments, as this would be abused.

•Add barricades and locks that would be logical to find in an apocalypse (I mean wooden and soft material barricades, not bulletproof steel barricades)

•Add portable safes with keys

•Key branding over fires

FARMING

•Dynamic crop care, including weather and environment dynamics

•Different crops in different seasons (When the engine has the capability for seasons)

•Tools for gardening w/ different uses

I hope you found this helpful :)

I think it would be neat (although with no for see able defense if heli's are ever in the game) a 'roof top farm' atop any of the high rise apartments. Have barricading of course. Could make a craftable 'rain barrel' that would 'catch' rain water. Would make for some interesting rooftop base warfare.

Not quite sure what Key Branding is, but from recent readings this is similar to what rocket wants aside from the underground building he wants to eventually do.  IE we board up windows and doors and claim a building as ours.  If a building is 'claimed' it won't spawn in any loot or zombies until it's 'lost' (barricades destroyed), and the storage items inside become usable and some can be crafted (shelf, wardrobes, ect).  I think that if we're able to do that we shouldn't be able to 'claim' certain buildings (IE no claiming of hospitals or barracks/military spawns).

I would like to see any form of barricade relatively cheap, but also destructible to prevent "hurr durr all loot at NWAF = mine"

I do want structures, but mainly for camps.

Things I would want to have in my camp, big central marquee/ party tent, caravan with no wheels to prevent theft, large campy tent.

Big ol permanent campfire for cooking with log seats around it and a big spit roaster.

The useful parts of the camp would be workbenches which you could craft/ modify many items with(sawed off shotgun from full length). (you could make the toolbench with an array of tools and wood).

Ammunition tables for reloading and modifying rounds (put friggin anything in a 12g shell).

(Made from more specialist tools including fine scales and such).

Anything that lets you store any loot should be rare and either be quite hidden/ secure.

If you can't see where I am going with my camp ideas I am intending on them to be very hard to build, everything in them would be rare but incredibly hard/ impossible to steal/ steal from so the camp builders are happy for strangers to come in and out as long as they don't try and murder everybody on the spot.

In essence when you find a camp you are more likely to use the tables and cook some food and move on than steal everything in sight.

This is getting a lot like the C96...

Look, base building was something that was big in the mod and I think it should be somewhat implemented in the standalone. If Dean decides to implement base building, please make it simple and not so that players can build bases up to the sky...

Base building, I believe, is crucial to the success and longevity of the standalone. It doesn't have to be crop farming, animal husbandry or anything like that (not saying I wouldn't like to see it) but the ability to store a valid amount of loot and work for something a little more than just what you can carry is a must. In the actual apocalypse, do you honestly believe that you would just wander around the same world aimlessly, only taking what you could pick up and carry and never storing anything for the future or creating a safehouse for you and your friends? I don't.

Also, I believe there is a reason that Origins went from being the top mod to a polarized switch in popularity when Epoch introduced it's non-linear base-building addition. The ability to build and store makes players want to continue playing and gives people something to work for more than killing fresh spawns on the coast.

Just my two cents.

beans from me.

im sure we can build tents, storage boxes n stuff in the future. and baricade doors and windows.

it would be awesome to have a base with your freinds.

but it must switch the server with the "owner".

you cant start it again and again just because of server problems.
