RedNome 443 Posted January 7, 2014 I was a staunch 3rd person user all the way through the mods life span from when I joined in June 2012. I convinced myself to give 1st a fair crack in SA because of the more immersive experience given, I will now be 1st person exclusive and also free of wall hacks. Love it, just takes a little getting used to is all.
tinroofer 23 Posted January 7, 2014 I've never really liked 3rd person view in any games at all, from shooters to racing games. Its not that first person perspective is bad, its that first person perspective in dayz is bad. The glaring graphical and viewpoint problems aside, the movement mechanics of the entire engine are currently a complete train wreck and need to be completely overhauled before they think of putting the game into even f&f closed beta. Anyway, I'm just assuming that there will be a complete tear down and rebuild of all the movement/mechanics/view aspects before dayz ever gets commercially launched as anything close to a finished product. Add to that the physics engine that is sorely needed, and you will have a quality commercial level game, and not this current tomfoolery of using so many Arma2 resources, because let's be honest, apart from the firing of weapons it feels like your character has some form of palsy. chompster 171 Posted January 7, 2014 If i have the option for 3rdP then i can't help but use it every now and then, but i tend to stick to FPV. Won't deny that i do use it to peak around corners when i encounter hostile players, but that's because they most likely are as well and there is no way i'm purposely putting myself at a huge disadvantage. I have no issues playing on FPV only servers though. Actually like it a lot more.
floj 393 Posted January 7, 2014 I get stuck in doorways in 3PP just as often as I do in 1PP - imo they should just make the doors a little wider or allow weapons and backpacks to clip through the frames - it removes some realism, but would make indoor navigation a ton easier. Never had FPS issues in either (pretty sure that 1PP should have marginally higher FPS since it's not having to render a detailed model in the foreground of each scene)
DemonGroover 8836 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) I never feel like I have any peripheral vision in First Person view, why I love Third Person so much because it gives you it like in real life.. I understood your complaints until this comment. Sure 1st person isn't exactly what we see in real life but 3rd person is far, far from it. Peripheral vision isn't Superman X ray vision. fig0451 85 Posted January 7, 2014 I am literally baffled that half the people in this thread cannot navigate doorways in first person. Do you guys have trouble going through doors in real life? And the entire peripheral vision argument for 3rd person makes no sense. Change your FOV if you must, oh and hold alt to free look.Thank god for 3PP:OFF servers.
scaramoosh 162 Posted January 8, 2014 I understood your complaints until this comment. Sure 1st person isn't exactly what we see in real life but 3rd person is far, far from it. Peripheral vision isn't Superman X ray vision. It isn't exactly the same, it gives you a little bit more and you get a better sense of awareness of what is around you like in real life. In the SA it's so hard to get a sense of what is around you, your hearing in game doesn't seem as good as real life and nor is the FoV. The problem is if you turn the FoV up in first person, it looks really odd for one but you just get tons of graphical glitches from the camera clipping through your model.
