Whut, does loot spawn on fixed spots? I can imagine that getting kind of lame after a while if you know them all... :/

Loot will only spawn from certain "areas", the Press Vest for example only spawns in the North East Cargo Glitch Ship(dont go on it unless you know where it can glitch you out or you risk death) or the large Train Stations that are in the bigger metro areas(elektro..etc.). And, while they spawn in those locations they are still part of a very large loot pool, so your chances of finding one in those locations even on a fresh server start is still very minimal.

Press vest stops at least one m4 bullet fully and one partially, tested by people and also seen working on dev's videos BEFORE this game was sold on steam.

Last night was wearing UK assault vest and it didn't stop any bullets. I managed to stay alive and shirt was ruined, meaning I got shot in the chest but vest was pristine.

At the very least, take it and trade it for a pristine acog scope or something.

No offense, but chances are nobody will trade on here unless there's a trading outpost implemented. If you even remotely have a weapon (let alone a firearm) you'd be shot/killed before or right after trade. Personally I'd love to trade but people are too hostile on here... Then again I can't really blame them.

There we many, many successful trades in the mod with no "trading outpost" area.  There are ways to do it safely.  There's also trading clans such as FTC and whatnot.  There isn't a forum for it yet, but there was a whole forum in the mod http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/70-trading/

If you spend your time in cities...then I would wear it. I mean protection is protection. Losing two slots in cities? Who needs it. If you spend your time in the wilds...well then you probably need more strorage and camo. Also not so many people are shooting at you...specially if they can't see you.

 

Today a person walked past me because he didn't see me. If had worn a red helmet...I don't think they would have walked past me :)

All the train stations, and the ship at Rify, spawn the various vests talked about here.  I've found the Press Vest/ballistics vest and Anti-Stab Vest, all have spawned these.  Currently sporting the Anti-stab Vest on my current char.  It has no storage slot, but I don't care about that.  I'm still stocked to the hilt..
