Like to See Squad.xml Added

Recommended Posts

Hello there

In all my years of playing the Arma engine, I have never seen one misuse of the squad xml.

Even if it did happen the sizes are not vast and one can always report any offensive user to the Server admin.

If the server doesnt have an easily contactable admin, you dont want to play there regardless.

The mod supported squad.xml, how many giant dicks and swastikas did you see painted on the side of UAZ's?

You tell me - I didn't play the mod, friend.

Zero.

I played the mod and Cherno Life and have never seen 1 instance of abuse. Like I said it was fairly technical to get the logo's in there to begin with, so not like every idiot with a computer was going to take the time just to get a big dick on his car in the game.

If a player in this game has time to make patches and design logos - then this game has failed.

I am all for some type of marks or tags, bandanas or spraypaint, that could be used to mark locations, identify groups and territories, indicate a cache location...

but this idea that they need to be custom is silly... it detracts from the game world, it seems frivolous when nothing else in the game is.  WRONG FLAVOR.  I agree just cus cool - doesnt mean appropriate.

Lets have rare drops for spray paints and bandanas (no one uses bandanas on their heads basically anyway - and i can see no identifyable benefit later in game due to climate etc. that would be contributive for them.  Let the spraypaint mark certain buildings or signs or locations that are kept semi persistant... allow overpainting immediately or cleaning off the tag after a certain time (reflecting the difficulty of removing spraypaint tags)...

Keep these things rare and let them ruin on kills... only squads that are intent on id could save up enough for their players.. and a lucky bandit or survivor might be able to pass off as one of the big squads on occasion for subterfuge.

The rest: hooey.

Are you joking. If a player has time to make a Clan logo This game as Failed. Dude. This game is all about waiting .. Also you have cleary never played the Arma games other then dayz. Group Icons and Tags is all apart of BI .. Sqaud.xml is hardcored into the Game engine .. If you want real life .. This is it. .Real life clans or Groups Mark them selfs .. Look at your Police Services , EMT .. They are cleary marked for a reason. This has nothing to do with cool.. This is a part of real life and needs to be in the game.

I think Squad.xml should exist in a more limited fashion. It should allow players to design custom logo's, but that should only determine what's available to loot when you're online. You should still have to find the patches in game by looting military locations, dead milzombies, or crash sites.

Unlooted patches are basically "generic," but once looted they acquire the look and feel of that player's squad.xml design (or one of a set of basic designs if the player has no squad.xml settings).

Importantly, they acquire this design permanently once applied, so if the player is killed their enemy should be free to loot the patch and attempt to impersonate a member of their squad.

Check out this thread for ideas on patches and additional squad identification items:

Yeah I could Agree with that .. If you do not have a patch on your toon then your Clan or Group Logo would not show up in game.. The Haters to this idea need to understand.. Some things in real life to not swap to video games. In real life you can tell if that is your friend from 20 to 30 meters away no problem. Things like they way they walk and details of face and hair.. Hand and Body movements. In game you can not tell if the dude beside you is or friend do to the lack of difference in the models is not there and the quality of them. Even though the game looks amazing.. There is just too much from a real life person to am in game model that just does not look real enough to me. We use little things now in our squad to tell eachother apart like we all wear the same gear. or as close as possilbe.. Adding Patchs would just improve this.. Again this would not make the game easyer. .That is not what this is about. This is about making the game MORE REAL!!! .. Even though it may not sound like it .. It will..

I don't really care if they add squad XML. I don't get why some people are talking realism and authenticity.

Want to talk realism and authenticity?

There are plenty of bigger issues than little patches on some clan's arms. Like the hundreds of Bobo the Clown masks I'm finding all over the place.

Let people loot blank pieces of cloth which can then display squad.XML and be sewn onto their clothes. Done.

heres the deal.. if people on the internet have the ability to bring their own creation into the game, then within hours of implementation, there will be phallic objects and ponies everywhere.

lets let the devs give us random patches and or designs and colors to choose from -- if they chose to implement this.

[...] ponies everywhere.

Problem?

[...] lets let the devs give us random patches and or designs and colors to choose from [...]

Because all of the dev's design choices so far have been really immersive... right?

Because as soon as this is available, everybody will pick penises and other, subjectively inappropriate content. *sarcasm*

From what I recall not everybody in Arma and stuff could just pick a symbol right away anyway and, even if they got that far, didn't pick any of said objects. I also imagine everyone with a supposedly stupid symbol could become a prime target.

Are people implying that this mechanic for groups would immediately be abused by said groups that might have nothing better to do than to put pink penises or likewise on their arm? Certainly, a few might go that far and do it, but I can imagine certain responses to this via server or similar eventually. Or via the game.

In the end Dayz has always been about freedom to play the way you want .. Why should they stop now by not allowing Squad.xml
