[SA] Firearm Assembly

Recommended Posts

Since the bottomline of the game is having our knowledge transferable in to the game, id suggest adding

complexity to the firearms. The knowledge of breaking down weapon, cleaning it and assembling it back

together is a practical skill itself.

It would also add risk factors in to the game. Poor weapon maintenance resulting in more frequent weapon jams

and these can result either simple bolt out the jammed round or may have to disassemble the weapon to unjam it.

Also when finding unlooted weapons, can take their important components as spares if unable to retrieve the whole weapon.

This would also make knowledge of firearm more useful when picking your weapon, such as AK-47

which is very reliable weapon but not the most accurate and finding supplies for it should be easier

in soviet state, then finding parts for M4 (Unless planning to add components of backstory that brings NATO

troops to assist with the containment, so finding M4 can be more common).

I would like this sort of level off difficulty :)

Aslong as it doesn't become a laborious task needing to be done every ten or so shots fired.

It could spawn in residential meaning military campers are going to have less reliable guns than the normal in and out player.

Maybe breaking removing the upper from the lower receiver of an M4 shrinks the length of the gun allowing you to fit it in a backpack with a bit more width.

So every non American citizen without any military experience couldn't play the game...

I know nothing about guns. I wouldn't have a clue about how to maintain one...

I don't want to have to read up on weapon maintenance to play a game.

Pretty bad suggestion IMO.

Hmm a nice idea and could work as long as its kept simple otherwise I agree with Korsbaek

It would be pretty basic as to the degree of detail the devs wish to go to if you would ask me.

I wouldn't be expecting to drag and drop parts to reconstruct the trigger assembly.

However wouldn't you like to improve your knowledge just a little bit?

It would be something you learn as you go like using saline/ extracting blood.

Because nothing is ever quite as simple as it seems.

Yeah if it was some kind of system where when you inspect the weapon you could click and drag the certain parts to disassemble it and clean it. That way you could just pull it apart and learn through trial and error, like most of dayz.

Perhaps the weapon might just misfire or jam occasionally if left unmaintained, thus still being useful to the player who can't while also rewarding those who take the time to learn

This is a stellar idea for the game. Not only would it add realism to the game, but also prominently distinguish weapons from each other.

For example, an M4 would have slightly better accuracy than an AK 74 and also easier access to modification parts and such, but degration of operation would be much, much quicker.

This would make the Kalash the 'weapon for keeps', and the AR base the 'specialist's weapon'.

For example, an M4 made completely of pristine parts, between when the first and lets say the 50th shot is fired might have a possibility of misfire of maybe 10%.

Once the rifle surpasses the 50th, the chance of misfire increases by a small percentage per shot, until a point where the rifle will no longer fire, and maybe even injure the user.

I say 50 shots because of the availability of weapon parts in military spawns, but I think something like a weapon maintenance kit would be much more suitable.

isnt the game aiming for realism? if you know nothing about guns, just go along with melee weapons, let the guns for the adults to play (:

in a hypothetical post apocalyptic scenario, if you dont know shit about guns, you're pretty much fucked, just as if you know nothing about survival or first aid, even lack of biology knowledge would fuck you up at some point.

So why, instead of being ignorant, you search for 5 minutes for the basic of the basics about guns before commenting things like that?

DayZ is about what would happen if you were thrown to survive in apocalyptic world, so you have to adapt

to the situation. If DayZ would happen right now and you didnt know how to maintain a weapon then some

mystical button isnt coming to save you.

Besides the weapon assembling is pretty simple task and all you have to do is clean it with gun oil.

Great suggestion. I might suggest further that the guns have an inner parts status, pristine and so forth, that determine the likelihood of jamming or misfiring, and the attachments add to it's zoom range, damage dealt, accuracy, stability, and portability. As it is right now, guns don't show a status, so we caught it at a good time to make a change!
