The solution to constant hunger/thirst (And a bonus story)

Recommended Posts

Stop sprinting everywhere.

Because the standalone is taking a more realistic approach to survival (besides the indeterminable timer for unconsciousness, when in real life it happens for only a few minutes; yes, I am writing this while waiting for my character to come out of his coma), you can't (in real life) run for miles and miles and not at least feel thirsty or lightheaded. Walk around more. Explore, take in the solitude and fear from the threat of death constantly looming over you and your stuff. Yes, the game takes on a slower pace, but you'll live longer. Only jog for long-distance travels, and sprint only in emergencies. If you guy is tired, stop walking for a few seconds, catch your breath, then keep going.

If you're wondering why I'm unconscious, someone made some godawful joke (Hey your name is Bambi because I killed your mother and now I'm going to kill you) and shot me after I had a fistfight with a zombie, so my response was to respawn at Elektro where I died, then go around and beat the shit out of him and his friends with my bare fists. I punched three random people to death, then found a shovel, and found my murderer and brained him while he was healing from some bleeding. I went after his friends, stabbed one with a screwdriver, then while I was having a brawl with someone else in an intersection, someone shot them and I passed out unconscious. They took my backpack and I am now lying in the middle of the street waiting.

I assume I passed out from blood loss, hunger, thirst, and exhaustion all at the same time. At least I bandaged myself and wasn't bleeding right before I passed out

UNCONSCIOUS CAM 1: Group ran by, zombies murdered one of them. Now I have a face-to-concrete friend.

The solution is to get your energy level up, eat alot and drink at every well. This way you can sprint all the time.

Rice, and a water bottle.

I cannot stress the importance of rice. It gets you from starving to well fed with 10% of a bag. It's amazing stuff.

How do get around the stomach capacity? At the moment, despite being well stocked in terms of food and water, I still make myself vomit all the time trying to get to the 'regen' state...

Sprinting should have an exponentially increasing impact on energy and water loss. Sprinting away from someone trying to kill you for 20-30 seconds won't really exhaust anyone. But if you keep sprinting, that's should have an impact. And this impact of course needs to be something that doesn't immediately go down to zero as soon as you stop sprinting, but has more of a slow cooldown effect, to prevent people from abusing it. Your heart rate increases, you're exhausted, panting like a dog, and your aim gets all wobbly. Stuff like that.

People should be jogging everywhere, not sprinting.

This.

The "hunger" and "thirst" indicators in your inventory screen are akin to a warning light on your car warning you that you are low on gas. When the "low gas" light stops lighting up it doesn't mean that your gas tank is full. Same goes for the SA hunger and thirst system.

Eat until it says "my stomach is full"

Drink until it says "my stomach is full"

Then don't worry about eating or drinking for an hour or so.

I didn't even know "my stomach is full" was a prompt that could come up. I'm not liking the new text-based system.

Looks like someone still hasn't watched the video about food, drink, energy, and stomach capacity that is posted on this site. ;)
