pojo2k8 18 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Suggestion is to leave visible footprints in character's path on roads or in buildings. Footprints could be followed by humans or by zombies, which means could be used to set traps.Footprints could fade after set time, or fade after storm when out of doors,Footprints could gradually fade out after say 20+ steps since dirt will eventually leave shoes.Footprints could be customized to the shoe type so you could look for sneakers, boots, etc.Footprints could only show up on roads or buildings after crossing from dirt.Footprints could give you a visible indicator of search pattern in a building (missed rooms)Footprints could be limited to wet boots/shoes to encourage player to stay out of mud/water.Footprints also add to the creepy factor when you're getting visible signs of prior traffic.Really crazy idea would be to cut notch in boots, then follow that specific patttern for tracking. xxsheepdoggxx 6 Posted January 2, 2014 Realm of what is really possible.... sadly gaming is not yet to the days where these things can happen XD awesome idea with the notched boot though!

Khad (DayZ) 293 Posted January 2, 2014 Why should this be impossible...? There are allready footprints! They just despawn too fast, that's all.
Sawlstone 33 Posted January 2, 2014 Realm of what is really possible.... sadly gaming is not yet to the days where these things can happen XD awesome idea with the notched boot though! It can happen in gaming, Guild Wars 2 has footprints as well as Skyrim. Skyrim allows you to toggle it on or off. But for the terms of what OP is describing I don't think that is possible yet.
matiman 166 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Why should this be impossible...? There are allready footprints! They just despawn too fast, that's all. because each footprint is another object that should be handle by the server, and this would require loooots of ressource.I find the idea really cool, but don't think it would be possible regarding performances. Howevere, something that should propably be possible is to follow blood drops on the ground to hunt somebody wounded and bleeding(I believe this is a new feature for DayZ mod 1.8.1, so no reasons it shouldn't be possible in SA) Edited January 2, 2014 by matiman
floj 393 Posted January 2, 2014 Since the footprints are caused by a player which already has it's information sent/recieved by the server, the footprints *could* be dealt with in a mostly client-side fashion. Just have your PC remember each characters movements from the last 5/10minutes and then display the corresponding trace... I have no idea on how much CPU/GPU load this would cause though and it might end up as a hidden pay2win factor. The kids with the most RAM can store a longer footstep trail to follow xD
