pythonmsh 71 Posted January 2, 2014 There's a show on Netflix called "The colony"It ended up reminding me of DayZ a little bit seeing as they're trying to simulate a real world apocalypse of some sort. Just watching this show makes me think of quite a few ideas that would be so cool for DayZ to have.
Ugly (DayZ) 79 Posted January 2, 2014 please elaborate what u want incorporated into DayZ. I haven't seen The Colony
cywehner1234 582 Posted January 2, 2014 Its a really shitty reality show. It's all staged and nobody is actually surviving. I watch A EPISODE, to really it was all staged.
pythonmsh 71 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) please elaborate what u want incorporated into DayZ. I haven't seen The ColonyI feel like in any sort of survival situation your most important things are going to be Food, water and shelter. When it comes to the shelter aspect you're obviously going to want to fortify your place a bit. With that idea in mind it'd be pretty cool if you could find certain tools like maybe Power tools, welders, etc. Put them in your shelter and start to craft certain things using them to help build your base. Maybe end up hooking up electricity to your place to even power these tools and possibly even some lighting. Another idea would be to add some sort of "Rain catch" in your place so you could make use of the rain and use it for drinking water. I'm sure I'll come up with more ideas later on. Its a really shitty reality show. It's all staged and nobody is actually surviving. I watch A EPISODE, to really it was all staged. 99% of reality TV shows are staged and fake as hell. But it's been somewhat interesting. Just seeing the things they come up with. Edited January 2, 2014 by pythonmsh
Ugly (DayZ) 79 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) ok. Where are you getting Electricity from? Solar panels? Batteries? You'd need 13 9v batteries in series to get 120v. Edited January 2, 2014 by Ugly
Zogvarn 118 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Edit: Wait you guys are talking about a TV show? I thought you meant the movie. I saw that movie and recommend it to everyone. Plenty of action, some deep personal and moral questions being asked, and a unique take on the apocalyptic genre. Since it deals with similar themes as DayZ, it does give some ideas of situations or conditions that could be used in game in the future. Though I think it will take quite a while before we are able to see any of them due to current engine and map limitations. pythonmsh 71 Posted January 2, 2014 ok. Where are you getting Electricity from? Solar panels? Batteries? For example they ended up using batteries hooked up to an inverter. To recharge these batteries they ended up using a small engine hooked up to an alternator to keep the batteries powered.
InflatedLyric 39 Posted January 2, 2014 ok. Where are you getting Electricity from? Solar panels? Batteries? You'd need 13 9v batteries in series to get 120v. I would assume something is operational to keep the ocassional street lamp lit. Maybe we could salvage what there is or rebuild it.

Some of these ideas might sound kinda stupid. But the logic I'm going with is trying to use whats available to you and make nifty/useful things. I feel like they want to get pretty serious with this crafting system. Find an old car battery? Use them to power something. You could even consider using electricity to run an electric stove to cook your meet.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) I thought it was a good show, and of course it was staged, it was the whole premise of the show, they even called it 'the Experiment' several times, can't exactly do a 'real' Apocalypse reality show. Lots of things they could pull from the show, but it would be mostly related to basebuilding/bunkers. The use of Gassifers as an alternate means of fuel (they used the gassifer to fuel the engine to get most of their power from, then they 'found' some solar panels and they were getting enough from that that they didn't need the engine anymore. They converted a few vehicles to run on wood gas (same gassifer principle). They also made a scout vehicle/pipe buggy that was electric.During the second 'season' the survivors made bio-diesel from rotting pigs they found in a delivery van (zombie-diesel anyone?)If i remember correctly they made a UAV balloon using computer fans and some other parts.*EDIT*and honestly I still want to make that electric water purifier they built one episode (think it was basically a teslacoil) Edited January 2, 2014 by BigMike
