Lack of diversity with Loot

Right now, finding loot is very simple. You got to a location, you scavenge it, you leave. Chances are, if you go to a warehouse, you'll find warehouse things, if you go to a military camp, you'll find military things.

 

This is all fine and dandy until you realize how redundant it is to find the same guns, ammunition, cosmetics, and other useful / useless stuff in certain buildings.

 

The Firestation is currently the biggest offender.

 

Everytime I would go to a Firestation anywhere on the map, I'd always find the same things, if noone had got to the place before me-

  • Pistols, on the bottom floor near the stairwell, also on the second floor, and sometimes the top floor.
  • Magazines, also on the bottom floor near the stairwell, sometimes on the second floor.
  • Chest Holsters, on the bottom floor near the stairwell and the first floor.
  • Gas lamps, in the large, open bottom floor space.
  • Gasmasks, bottom floor open space, and the first floor.
  • Assorted camoflauge, second floor.

After I started noticing these patterns in what I would fine, I decided to do a test, which you can do yourself if you're not worried about getting killed as you log in by someone else or want to be a purist with your character, but since this is alpha testing, I decided to go a bit more in depth with what I was seeing.

 

I logged off inside the Firestation, logged onto a near empty server, and looked around. Didn't take anything, just looked. Sure enough, the same items were in the same general area. There was no apparent "rare" spawns, just the same items. Sure, sometimes there would be no magazines, or two magnums, or one pistol, or two gasmasks, but it wasn't spawning anything else other then the specific items, and it was keeping with the specific areas that I listed above. 

 

What the game needs is loot that is a bit more diverse. This will probably come as more weapons, and thus more ammunition, is created.

 

I hope the Firestation, as the game progresses, is a bit less dull with what it spawns. If I want a pistol, I go to a Firestation, but I don't expect anything else. It is always good to have more items spawning in areas so that there is a reason to loot the place. Once the game gets to the point where looting each and every building is smart and can yield valuable items, we will be in the green.

 

BTW This isn't a complaint, just a suggestion / sharing of what I've discovered in-game

No shit, it's still in Alpha. If you haven't noticed, there's only like, 25-30 items implemented into the game so far.

Did you even read the thread? Its a SUGGESTION / SHARING OF WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED IN GAME. Not a complaint.

ALPHA MEANS PLAYERS SHOULD SHARE AND REPORT ISSUES THEY HAVE WITH THE GAME.

There will be more medical items, more cooking items, more hunting items and just more ITEMS in general added to the game. Test the things in the game to make sure they work, if they don't then report them. As time goes on and more items are added it will add diversity to every loot spot.

 

 

I do wish the firehouse had different items. Not sure why I am finding all these guns in the fire house but NEVER have I found a fire axe in there lol. Fire axes, med kits, food, canteens, clothes that is what should be in there, less guns.

Diversity is good, and I'm sure the devs have plans for a ton of items in every category, but I'm more interested in the organization of spawns. For example, the fire station should not be a place for military spawns, or even handguns, they should have fire axes, med kits, maybe fire helmets. Police stations, which don't even exist, should be the place to go for handguns, tac vests, maybe shotguns and the occasional rare military weapon. Military Bases shouldn't spawn Mountain Backpacks or any 'civilian' weapons. Food should be rare in all those places. Military bases should spawn more canteens, while the others only have water bottles. There should be different versions of medkits; civilian, professional, and military, with different equipment, that spawn in their appropriate areas. Basically, loot spawns need to be organized in a more logical manner to encourage exploration of all the areas, not just a few hot spots, and to have a slow build of improving equipment, rather than hitting one hospital and one military base and being set.

So I don't have the right to make a thread posting a NON HOSTILE suggestion / test of mine? For an Alpha game?

 

You're really ignorant. This is in ALPHA. Everything is being tested that is implemented so far.

I know how you feel bro, I keep looking under them beds but find nothing! 

 

I just know one time I'm gonna be shocked to find a dildo... probably coupled with dead batteries of course! however for you women survivors out there struggling to cope in this hell.. it's nothing a 9v Duracell replacement wont cure, I'm sure :)

There will be a TON of diversity in the future, that's for sure. In every recent interview (in 2013) with Rocket where gear and lootable items are mentioned, he says there are/will be at least 1000. Of course that may include new items that you as a player craft but still.. considering there are only a couple dozen items in the alpha at the moment..we, as players, will have to make a TON of decisions in the future when those items are finally in a test build. (especially when hunting and cooking are introduced).

 

Do you take a bunch of cooking items and hunting items and try and live off the land? Do you take a bunch of guns and ammo? stock up on medical supplies? Cause you won't be able to do all of them.
