blurhitz 244 Posted December 31, 2013 Hello everyone. I've noticed most of the community hates KoS. I personally am against it too, but have you ever thought about how did it start? Why does it happen? Well, I'm not the lord of the truth but I'm quite sure I know how does it happen. I'll explain it in an easier way... Just remember it is my opinion and I accept yours too. There's no need to be rough... There's a dude named John. Hi John!John just bought DayZ and wants to play a game of survival, frustration and achievement. A hardcore game! So, as a fresh spawn, John walks in the coast, looking to know the game better. ... After playing for some hours, John understands how the zombies work, and he has a nice character who looks cool with his aviators and all. He plays for more days. After a week, John has the coolest character: fully geared with M4, tons of ammo, and even a revolver! How cool is it? He loves it. But then some random dude gets there and shoots John on sight. The thug says it was "For fun".Raging, John exits and stops playing for while. 2 days later... When he finally got back to the game and got all his loot back, after a lot of hard work, another guy looks at him and, without saying a word, shoots him. John is pissed. Raging, John exits and stops playing for while. A week later... He is calm again and goes back to the game. He already knows NWAF has the most badass loot in the game and he manages to get awesome loot in 2 hours. Then, he saw a guy with no guns. "Hey! I'm friendly!", John screamed. The guy goes in front of John and says he's friendly too. But, when John turns his back, the guy raises his hatchet and bang, John is dead. Raging, John exits and stops playing for while. A month later... Now John is fucking pissed and starts to become a real bandit. The same NWAF process again, this time it only took 1 hour and a half. He goes back to the coast to kill everyone, but he only sees a fresh spawn. "I won't hurt him, he can't hurt me, he has nothing! Maybe I'll help him out?" John thinks with himself. Then he calls the bambi to come closer. In a matter of seconds, the newbie punches John in the face, who is now unconscious. The bambi gets John's gun and kills him, and then gets all his loot. Raging, John exits and stops playing for while. ... John is back in the game. Same NWAF process, this time only took half an hour. He is back at the coast. John sees a guy with a M4 running around. "He's a threat", says John. BANG, the guy is dead. John doesn't even bother looting the body. Now, there is another guy with a hatchet. "He's a threat", says John. BANG, the guy is dead. John doesn't even bother looting this body either. At the end of the day, there is a fresh spawn at the coast, saying he's friendly. "He's a threat". BANG.In his last moments of life, the fresh spawn asks: "Why did you do that...?"John's answer is short and rough: "For fun". The end.
SubSt8 35 Posted December 31, 2013 Yup and as long as a player is a threat to me I will never hesitate to kill them. Rocket needs to allow players to put themselves in hand cuffs and also have a submissive pose, something like prone but they can't have a weapon in their hands, including their hands, it takes 10 seconds to get up from and they are fully lootable while in that position. Also they need to fix the lag desync so that I can be assured that what I am seeing the player do is what they are actually doing. Also they need to stop all forms of combat logging, you log out while bleeding, in the submissive pose, restrained, after pressing the attack button(within a minute), or within 10 meters of another player(without waiting 30 seconds to logout properly), then you are dead. Then and only then will I stop killing on sight. So maybe once SA is out of alpha. Until then I will KoS and have a good old time doing it.
wgaf 251 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) It's always safer to kill someone than not to, since if they are dead they lose thier stuff and have to respawn, and aren't near you anymore. In any given interaction the options are 1) Log off2) Kill the person3) Don't kill the person. Logging off is just as safe as killing the person, but is time consuming. Not killing the person is very risky. You can't know peoples intentions, so you can only judge them based on thier capabilities. Those are quite literally words to live by. xX_fr0st-w0lf_Xx (DayZ) 343 Posted December 31, 2013 Delicious story, however lets look at bob now. Bobs been playing dayz for a while, bob has nothing to do with his shitton of ammo so bob decides to kill random people because there is nothing elseto do in the game. He does this for fun. Conclusion of the topic, kos is fun.

onlyomaha 7 Posted December 31, 2013 getting fully geared takes like 1-3hours and go witchhunting. Im normally killing people who dont talk on mic ! its like they are NPC for me. So they would be better dead than alive, because dead player cant kill you and steal your items ;) with other people who talk im interacting. Thats all ! KoS is great, atleast kills boredom. ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted December 31, 2013 Hello everyone. I've noticed most of the community hates KoS. Hello, xBlurHitz. I've noticed you're suffering from a severe bout of confirmation bias that makes you think there exists some "community" that agrees with everything you say, when you've really just read a couple blog posts and a few whining forum rants from people who happen to hold the same asinine views as you and have been playing the game for less than a month. Well, I'm not the lord of the truth You don't say?! I thought for sure. You had me fooled for a second, what with the hat and everything. I was about to ask you how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop and then I realized that was just a steaming pile of dog excrement on your head and this has all been one big lie. Boom, there's the paradox, hahaha ...Who the heck is John? Never met da guy :P John is what people claim DayZ to be! I don't fully agree with that, though
Mallow88 110 Posted December 31, 2013 Why do you assume that everyone hates KoS? Just because a bunch of noobs flood the forum doesn't mean that the hundreds of thousands of players all share this sentiment.

libertine 351 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) KOS is fun, the whole process sometimes. I only do it when playing the Origins mod to bandits wearing bandit skins. But for immersion players playing realistically it F's up their experience I think because in part it doesn't make sense. If there were a little hint of a meaning behind it via a small back story i think it would be much more acceptable. Sounding like a broken record now, but i think bringing back the humanity system and giving bandits a subtle red arm band would be best, making KOS'ers mercenaries for the remaining military structure, acting to try and stop the virus by KOS. The arm band would make sense because they don't want to shoot each other and have been told they will get protection/housing/food when "its all over". Survivors become the resistance, having learned what is going on and can now KOS bandits, acting as a sort of vigilante, or they can be passive survivalists avoiding people as per usual. blurhitz 244 Posted December 31, 2013 The introduction isn't the focus of the whole topic. I'm sorry to bring it to you, but the point is to try to explain how things in the game can change a player mind, not to see if the community hates KoS or not. It looks like some people just try to find a mistake in everything... I'm sorry if the introduction was wrong. That was just the impression I got from the community by 90% of the posts I've read, which were tons. Now, no need to rage and tell me I have "dog shit in my head". ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted December 31, 2013 not to see if the community hates KoS or not. It looks like some people just try to find a mistake in everything... Dude, the first sentence of your post is "Hello everyone. I've noticed most of the community hates KoS." Are you really going to back pedal from that?
Mallow88 110 Posted December 31, 2013 Your introduction was essential to the whole topic. If 90% of the community truly doesn't like KoS, then it would be in the best interests of the developers to remove it. However, this is not the case. The fact that you could be killed by any player you encounter is exactly what has made this game a success, and the developers are aware of this. Nothing is saying you have to kill on sight, but the threat always remains. It creates a level of suspense that doesn't exist in normal shooters, or RPGs. It's a beautiful hybrid of the two genres that ultimately creates emotional and biological responses that I've never experienced in other games. I've never experienced the pure amount of adrenaline, paranoia, and fear that this game can create. This is exactly what I would expect from a post-apocalyptic environment. If you don't like KoS, please, just be patient. The game is rudimentary right now, so there isn't really much else to do. Also, I recommend finding a group or people who share your same views so you can play together peacefully. However, without intermittent threat of mortality from any direction or location, the game becomes just like any other shooter, or RPG. If you can't accept that fact that people might kill you to take your items, or just for the hell of it, then you should find another game to play.

Well if you think I'm wrong, feel free to do it. I'm just saying there's no need to say I have shit in my head, it doesn't mean I changed my mind about this sentence. combatcomm1 234 Posted December 31, 2013 What you desecribe is the vicious circle of banditry. Although, 2 years later I still dont KoS so it doesn't affect everyone.

combatcomm1 234 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Well, a virtuous person is a person who knows how to control/avoid the vices  Getting close though lately. All this behind the back serverhopper killing. The story you just told did not explain how KoS started, it explained how some dude got KoSd and raged. Jesus you aren't even consistent in your own fairy tale realities. Huh? He explained how KoS tendency start in an individual. You fail. KoS in general started when a CoD player got a hold of the mod. Then described vicious circle commenced from there. What came first? the killer or the victim?? Deeeeeep. Edited December 31, 2013 by VictorM
blurhitz 244 Posted December 31, 2013 Hmm, I take it you neglected to read my reply. Oh well ;) No, no, I read it (: and I know the paranoia is needed; but banditry isn't equal to killing on sight. KoS is KoS, a bandit is a bandit. I want to fear people; and I want people with guns to hunt me sometimes, too. But not when 100% of the game is about that. I want to know it's a gamble; Not to be 100% sure he's a KoS'er. I don't know if you know what I mean, though... I've mixed feelings about this subject
Aussie Bogan 350 Posted December 31, 2013 This is how KOS started originally... ;) <<<< Those who played the mod can relate to this in some form...
