splat! 0 Posted May 12, 2012 There was a radio someone found in another thread but nobody really knew much about it. Here's an idea. The basic premise is to use the radio to announce side missions. It could be implemented such that every hour, everyone with a radio in their inventory gets a pirate radio broadcast announcing the creation of a server wide mission, or that one already exists. This needn't actually be registered as a mission with the players, it could just announce a grid location where something has happened. That way anybody who stumbles upon it can reap the goodies.Furthermore it may be possible to only announce side missions to those with positive humanity. Or on the flipside, special side missions only those with negative humanity will hear about. You could even make them clash. Think different radio stations or more generally different missions for survivors and bandits.Another more general idea; parts that can only be acquired via missions. I'm only really talking about the best parts for the best vehicles. Think military.Combined with the previous point you could keep the best side missions for the survivors with the bandits only ever getting second best. Those survivors need some encouragement. However I guess the problem with that is the bandits can still have someone on the inside to crash the party. For that, maybe it'd be better to restrict and register missions after all. With that individual survivors can get a nice piece to combine with others. I guess you can still kill them but it'd be harder to stalk them.So all up there's actually four suggestions:use the radio to announce side missionsdifferent missions for survivors and banditsparts that can only be acquired via missionsbest side missions for the survivorsand a lingering question of whether to register side missions or not (might be dictated by the power of the modding tools actually). Alex (DayZ) 8 Posted May 12, 2012 101 other suggestions JUST LIKE THIS. Not going to happen, we don't want it to happen, move on.
terrvik 2409 Posted May 12, 2012 Sorry for a short reply to a long well thought out post but i kind of like the idea that the game never tells you what to do or creates sidequests but rather that it is up to the players to "create" their own sidequests based on needs and such. :)
splat! 0 Posted May 12, 2012 Oh? I was somehow under the impression side missions were already in the pipeline. :-/There's mention of the word in the changelogs. :dodgy:
Blitzy 12 Posted May 12, 2012 101 other suggestions JUST LIKE THIS. Not going to happen' date=' we don't want it to happen, move on.[/quote']Negative. It did happen. In this thread, a DayZ survivor managed to get their hands on a never-before-seen handheld radio in-game. The radio appeared to broadcast nothing but random static and beeping, and many were creeped out by its eeriness. Actually, the radio was broadcasting code. Translated, the broadcasted message pointed to a list of co-ordinates where you could find some sweet gear, along with this message:"We are no longer alive STOP This message will play every hour if operators are no longer responsive STOPMESSAGEUnable to quarantine subject change STOPMESSAGE"As you can see, such suggestions are actually being implemented and they're hella fun to watch them unfold as survivors discuss the radio, the code and the prize at the end. There's no need to be so hostile to people - particularly when you're wrong.

There's no need to be so hostile to people - particularly when you're wrong. It didn't give him side missions for rewards, it gave him co-ordinates for Deer Stands which can easily be looked up online. The OP is talking about making missions and materializing items. Two VERY different things.
terrvik 2409 Posted May 12, 2012 Hey! I never were hostile, just said what i like. I even excused myself!I guess if done right it could add to the immersion but what i dont want to see is questlogs and map updates and "events". If you know what i mean. :)
