Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling

Recommended Posts

First I say this shouldn't come in yet because the game is in a very early alpha state ridden of bugs, hackers and all kinds of loopholes that can kill you and that can make this system annoying.

This suggestion is for public hive and how it should be run. I suggest that Y amount of servers should share one database. For example all DE1 servers have their own hive, DE2 have their own, NJ1 have their own etc. Different hives have naturally different characters and loot share but the big thing on my suggestion is that you can't make a new character in X amount of days/weeks/months.  So if you die in a DE1 hive server you can't join those servers for the X amount of time but you can play another character in DE2 hive. This way if you die it will have some impact on you because you can't play with your friends on the hive where you died for some time but you need to go alone or move with your friends in a different hive and naturally your friends have different characters on the different hive ;)

This kind of system would really bring the game more perma death feeling and you can't just run over your old body and loot your old stuff etc. The amount of time you're banned from the hive needs to be enough long and I suggest something like 2 weeks.

The wider amount of servers that share the same hive the more hardcore this suggestion is. Just need to find a great balance how many hives there should be on the public so people don't need to move on an Australian server if they live in Europe after couple of deaths.

With the system that we have now the death doesn't really feel enough permanent. You just die and couldn't care less about it.

I'm not sure would this reduce KoS but if you want to take the risk you need to pay the price if you screw up. Spawn campers/trollers need to be handled first because that would be the main problem of this sytsem.

What do you guys think?

/Maybe we need this to be for the hardcore hives only so casual players won't get upset?...

This suggestion is bad. I should be able to play with my friends.

Private hives, play on a different public server where everyone of your friends can make a new character or has a charatcer alive. This wouldn't stop you playing with your friends. This is a hardcore game.

I get your line of thinking.  Definitely not the worst suggestion on this forum, but I strongly disagree.

When you die, chances are you are no where near your body to just run over and loot your stuff.  In no death have I even spawned within a few kilometers of my death (assuming I knew where I was in the first place).

Plus if you recently died, whatever killed you is still there.

Also as the second comment mentioned, this absolutely sucks for people who want to play with friends.  And it's hard enough to meet up with friends anyway.

Plus if you die, it doesn't really matter which loot hive you are a part of as you have nothing once again.

If they implement this, I will looking for a private hive without this function and boycott the publics... like many, many others.

Atm it would just force me to join some crappy server made out of a rotten tomato located in Kongo.

Yep but your friends can loot your corpse and there's always a chance that you spawn very close where you died. Also if loot storage like tents are ever introduced in standalone this kind of system would reduce their effectiveness because you can't instatnly run on your tent to gear up.

The player can be there but it can't kill you for the second time in a next minute which is kind of dumb and does take away the perma death feeling when basically the same guy runs over on the same place in a next 5 minutes.

Well private hives and maybe then some non hardcore hives could be introduced for people who just want to quickly play with their friends. Maybe this suggestion should be only for hardcore hives.

A good idea for private "hard-core perma-death" servers, but the public servers should not use this mechanism. I want to be able to play on servers that I have a low ping to and that won't glitch due to high ping. Also, playing with friends would be made nearly impossible (unless you want to "kill" your whole group if a single person dies).

Like the other posters, I get your line of thinking, but it's flawed in the fact it would be a nightmare to team up with anyone you want to play with. A different idea would be leave the dying mechanics as they are, but make the higher level items in the game like military grade weapons, ammo for those weapons, military clothing and equipment incredibly rare, as well as have more of these item types (within reason, I disagree to machine guns and snipers like the DayZ mod) like perhaps another map type that specifically marks places of interest on the map etc, or a bottle that purifies any water put into it (A real thing, google is your friend).

What would this solve? Firstly, you don't want to die with all that good gear on you, and it's not like you can horde it at base, it's near to impossible to find. Secondly, no one wants to risk getting in a firefight with a newbie who has nothing to lose when you are stocked with equipment.

Also, just an afterthought, in reply to this.

Well private hives and maybe then some non hardcore hives could be introduced for people who just want to quickly play with their friends. Maybe this suggestion should be only for hardcore hives.

A large majority of guides to new players in DayZ tell them that the game is better with a friend, which is true, and I wouldn't doubt that a good portion (probably the majority) of the community play with friends from the start. This would mean there would be a population flux on the servers this not being applied to, while the servers with this addition would be barren.

I can't wait how hardcore Rocket wants to go with "perma-death". I'm afraid that there won't be any "perma-death" feeling unless something radical or hardcore is done. But making some hardcore hives how I suggested wouldn't ruin the game for "casuals"?
