robnicol96 4 Posted December 29, 2013 Hi guys, Basically i've found both, with lots of ammo for each, but dont know which one to use :P So, what would you all recommend? M4A1 - carryhandle optics, buttstock, handguard, magazineMosin - PU scope (i dont know how to use) Thanks
Zyryanoff 227 Posted December 29, 2013 It's easy. Long range - Mosin, close combat - m4. Just like IRL. ;)

Korsbaek 1778 Posted December 29, 2013 I would go for the M4 any day. I like the automatic fire :)
AP_Norris 1018 Posted December 29, 2013 Use mosin, it just looks better.Looks are honestly a big thing for me.
Dchil 829 Posted December 29, 2013 I'd take the mosin IMO, I can't seem to aim for sh*t so the increased damage (i think there is one, cause 7.62x54r from a mosin should beat down a lot more of a beat down than a 5.56x45 from a m4 carbine) helps when i actually hit something. Disclaimer: I have bought but not played SA yet and i am basing experience from the mod where IMO m14 over everything else and m4 is better than very little other than for mag cap. Wh1spY 110 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) Thanks :) I'm probably gonna keep the Mosin, just cant figure out how to use the scope There is nothing to learn about the PU-scope. Just right-click and you will look through it. If you find the long-range-scope, you can right-click, then hold for additional zoom. I'd say, keep the Mosin, get a long-range scope, attach a bipod and your good for mid/long range. One shot in either the head or body will kill your target. As your second weapon, find the .357 bullets for the Magnum for close-combat, if you can't find it, go for the FNX45 with a red-dot-sight, two shots in the body or one in the head and the target is dead.If you run out of bullets the Fireaxe is your best friend. The M4A1 may look cool and all, but it's terribly inaccurate at longer ranges, but if you can't aim, sure go for the M4. Dchil 829 Posted December 29, 2013 What ammo is used in the FNX45 btw guys?I'd guess Pistol/ .45 acp ammo seeing as it is a 45 cal semi auto.

Dchil 829 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I'm still such a nub, i love itHey, i haven't even played SA (quite a bit of the mod IMO) but i know a lot about guns and how games categorize things like ammo (For example, i can load the same bullets from a makarov into a 44 magnum according to Far Cry 3 but i'm not about to go out and try that IRL) so don't think you are completely noob. There are people who have never heard of DayZ, they are definitely more noob that everyone who has even tried it. I consider myself a noob but i know sh*t which translates to the game, you probably know stuff that's in game that i would ask a silly question about online. But it's still great that you still want to play it after some game time. I also hope that i do too. Edited December 29, 2013 by Dchil

There are of course some bugs, but I'm taking this period to learn the game and make some mistakes and see how to correct them, for example I fell off a roof to my death a few days ago  at least i know not to try and fly again
IrishHugo 75 Posted December 29, 2013 Something it took me quite a while to figure out is that if you find just an FNX45 and no clip, then find .45 acp ammo, you're not sorted. I found the gun and repeatedly tried dragging the ammo onto the gun, screaming at the gun, furiously clicking, but nothing worked. Then I found an FNX45 clip and everything was hunky dorey. What you do with the ammo is replenish the clip once its empty, so drag the bullets onto the empty clip and the clip into the gun. Took me a while since the Mosin doesn't work like that, and I sincerly doubt the magnum does either. What I'd love to do is to chamber a single round with the FNX45 if you only have ammo. And on an unrelated note, where do you find the magnum? I've only found ammo once and I've never seen the gun.
wgaf 251 Posted December 29, 2013 Almost every time I've shot a gun it has been to kill a zombie or execute a player. I tried a mosin, but the ammo/reloading stuff was just too much. I mainly use my m4 to shoot zombies, and it is really really good for it. 60rnd magazines, one hits on the zombies, fast reloading, rapid fire. A mosin is nice i guess if you also lug around a pistol with mags and ammo to deal with the zombies.

kingfury4 65 Posted December 29, 2013 Which gun gives you the feeling of being a World War 2 Soviet? Yeah, the Mosin.
The_Man 393 Posted December 29, 2013 I've taken out a few people with an M4...when I had a handgun. It comes down to what you are comfortable using and where you are in the map. Are you going to use a Mosin in supermarket? An m4 in a huge open field? This game is a little more complicated than your average FPS. What weapons do you have? They are all great. They each have their advantage. Take advantage of the weapon by looting in a place that suits the weapon. Need help? Long distances between you and your enemy with limited cover: Mosin. Moderate cover with sparse buildings: M4. Dense cities: Handgun, Axe. You can use any weapon any where really but in the end it comes down to what you are comfortable with using. Lancer 2-2 14 Posted December 29, 2013 How do you actually attach modules to the M4? I have one, with a bipod and flashlight in my backpack but I cannot figure out how to attach them... dragging and dropping seems to do nothing. Also where can the mosin be found? I have been in an out of almost all the buildings industrial, farm and civilian including shops, barns and some offices and found no weapons. Only weapons I have found have been an M4 and pistol with 1 mag each, NW airfield in one of the buildings with the jail cell like door.

If it doesn't work try making sure that the weapon is not in your hands. Switch to a different item in your hands then try to switch the modules over. Once the modules are on...right click on a module such as a bipod and it should give you the option to Deploy it. I think. I have found Mosins in the school buildings. Top floor in the only room on the top floor. I think it is the school.
MCRoadkill 7 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I like the M4 for close range, but I hate the recoil on it...if we can have so many modules on the M4 why not give us a front grip/stubby grip for more stability and have a fire selector to shoot of one round at a time.I mean it's nice to tap the mouse button and hope it shoots of one round, but like in RL the M4 has a fire selector..so lets also include that PLZ. but the discussion about Mosin vs. M4 is not really to be made, since it's an Alpha and 2nd it's like compairing apples with pears. Sure you can use the Mosin for close range if you lose the scope. They did it in WW2 so you could do it in here as well, but I rather have a Mauser K98, M1 Garand or M24 instead ;) Edited December 29, 2013 by MCRoadkill
Dchil 829 Posted December 29, 2013 Which gun gives you the feeling of being a World War 2 Soviet? Yeah, the Mosin.IS BEST RIFLE !/poor russian accent. This is so f*cking applicable to this conversation minus the cosmoline part (cosmo is a type of perserving grease found on 99% of stored mosins, and is apparently a bitch to get off after 70 years of hardening).

I think. I have found Mosins in the school buildings. Top floor in the only room on the top floor. I think it is the school. Those rooms are guaranteed to spawn a firearm, seems equal chance to spawn either a mosin, an M4 or an FNX. There's also a high chance for them to spawn pistol holsters and a relatively low chance to spawn 7.62 ammunition and mosin attachments. The roof of those buildings also has an ok chance to spawn some ammunition, attachments or holsters. Finding a mosin and ammo in the top room and a bipod on the roof feels like winning the lottery. Otherwise Mosins are occasionally found in the back seats of cars and in beige mansions (the ones with the green balcony). The red mansions have higher than average chance to spawn 7.62 ammunition and some medical supplies.
