First person only players need to band together

Recommended Posts

Converting entrenched 3rd person advocates is about as easy as forcing every American driver to ditch their automatic for a manual.

Hey! I am an American.... and I spent the first 10 years of my driving life in an automatic.... then I bought a Mazda 3 hatchback with a manual transmission... why? I wanted to. I signed the contract then proceeded to learn how to drive my new car on the way home... long story, short: no more autos for me.

Good idea for the servers, btw... beans? I insist.

Mr. Jebus, you have the exact attitude and mentality I hope to harbor in this thread. If the masses would like to play a watered down version, let them. All we need is a small pool of the pure, terrifying stuff that is dayz. Glad to have you on board.

Edit: fluxley, knew I'd see you on here sooner or later. Thanks for the info on the first person only servers. I am currently traveling and only have access to a phone. Do you know where these servers will be hosted geographically?

Sorry, no idea where they'll be hosted, should be enough of them to give a good spread though.

Superfluidity, I grew up driving a manual ('99 jeep wrangler) and I remember my roommate in college buying an automatic transmission Mazda 3 hatchback. I know you can imagine my disappointment at seeing the stump between the seats when he brought it home.

It's too bad that more people aren't willing to dive headfirst into a pretty insignificant challenge. Hopefully we can weed out the boys from the men.

Nothing is more immersive than having my vision blocked while prone because an axe handle is clipping through my head and right through my field of view.

So yeah...I think this lobbying group should probably wait a bit before ratcheting up to full on name calling in regards to people that don't agree with them. I mean seriously.

This thread is not the spot for name calling. Thank you for readdressing that point.

And I am sorry that a visual glitch that occurs while you are crawling with an axe is too obtrusive for your meager imagination to overcome.

^^There, is that the kind of "name calling" you were hoping for?

Edit: just quit smoking cigarettes. I'm an irritable prick. Also drinking. Sorry world. Good night.

Thats not name calling, thats attempting to be offensive and being a failure in the process. I was raised by Navy Chief's son, you really aren't ever going to compare to pure shitblistering power of them.

Far as on subject goes, if I'm using my imagination to overcome this clipping glitch....I'm obviously not seeing the potential threats I'm probably prone trying to survive and/or avoid. So the whole "imagination" argument is ridiculous. I can't imagine bullets out of my face cause I couldn't see the shooters well enough to take cover out of their line of fire.

I believe they are adding a hardcore option at some point in which one of the features will be first person only.

From the sound of it on these forums, you won't have a problem keeping the server full.  Third person is indeed a crutch and kinda ruins the immersion of the game.

So long as it is a server option to change it on private hives and say Veteran mode servers force 1st person... it is not fair that you force everyone else to put up with ArmA's clunky 1st person mechanics, some of us like to view the animations and our gear and then switch to 1st for combat (because aiming is messed up in 3rd person).

I'm looking forward to the FPV server option coming in, it can't happen soon enough IMO. I fully understand why people dislike a mixed view server so much and I sympathise.. I hope there are enough players to fill the FPV servers up.

Finally got into my first real firefight the other day in DayZ SA.  First let me say this - I've never played much OFP or ArmA and therefore never played the DayZ mod. However, I knew they were simulators. When I began watching some videos of DayZ, I was flabbergasted by the fact that a magical 3rd person view is possible in such a gritty, realistic, (authentic) game. I can't even believe it was available in ArmA. The same game that requires you to maintain your hunger and thirst levels allows you to literally see over and around walls.

So anyway. My first firefight. After finally getting fully geared up in the Northwest, I decided to head back to my spawning roots in Elektro and help out the fresh spawns and engage any KoSers. When I finally arrive, I first scout out the city from a hill not too far away. After not seeing any movement, I carefully move into the city and enter the hospital. Once I get towards the to the 3rd floor I meet a new spawn and give him my sidearm with 1 mag and no ammo along with some food and a full canteen to help him along. He thanked me. Next I run into a guy scouting the city from the top of the industrial building. He had no weapon and I offered goods but he politely declined and after a quick chat I moved out. I spotted at least 1 other fresh spawn in the city but didn't make contact.

I then move to the west side of the city just behind a fence and hear a series of gunshots stemming from just west. One fresh spawn to my left drops in the street. After I hold still using 3rd person to scout his direction (while not actually having to expose myself) I run into the guy from the industrial building. He volunteers to be bait and runs out to the right and nothing. After he comes back to me, he runs over to the fresh spawn's body to loot and is gunned down. I finally was able to see the helmet of the gunman who is nestled between a house and shed type building., but from my position there was no way to move in on him without being shot. I knew that he'd be able to see me move up in 3rd person even though I wouldn't be able to see him. I attempt to move slightly closer to the right and shots wizz past my head before I panic back to my wall. After another 3rd person standoff, I try to move around the far right side of a building on my street (I'm very limited in cover). I'm moving carefully as to not make too much noise from my footsteps. But before I can react, he quickly pops his head out and shoots me - quick enough to make it evident he spotted me in 3rd person first.

I got a bit carried away with my story there because a lot of the experience was awesome but my main focus is while I often find myself using 3rd person as it's available, in my opinion it completely destroys the mechanics of firefights and maneuvering. It turns such events, when in the right environment, to a battle of "who has the better unrealistic view". Idk. I know it's not intended to be a shooter and I like that it's not, but I enjoy a shooter where if you see the enemies' eyes, you know he can see yours as well. First person makes for more realistic scouting, room clearing, corner checking, and of course firefights.

Needless to say I'm on the bandwagon.

Sidenote: What do you all have your field of view set at?

First person only makes it completly different game.

The immersion factor of 1st person only is huge for me .. the pvp in this (while much better) still has the cheap feel that warz did to me.  Its all just a huge camping game about who can wait peeking around the corner in 3rd person longest.  I'm not sure why there has to be so much hate between the 2 sides constantly tho, its not like both can't exist.  I know(hope) first person servers are coming soonish though and am prepared for the wait.

Exactly! It doesn't even feel like a firefight. Just gotta run back n fourth in 3rd person until you see them make the mistake of looking/exposing themselves before you. It's silly.

I am 100% for forced first person perspective. The very idea of a game that is striving for realism in as many ways possible even allowing third person is ridiculous. My DayZ wet dream is no private hives, first person forces, time synced servers.

EDIT: I hope that at least there is a filter in the server browser for first person.

I thought dayz was a 'zombie' apocalypse survival simulator?

people like you really need to read the game description it never says anything about being a simulator.

Does anyone have more details about this steam download that disabled third person view?

I saw it mentioned elsewhere.

To opt into the experimental build go to steam right click dayz>properties>betas>experimental-preview testing version.

I think the current version is 113925, theres only about 6 or so servers up for it look for ones named DayZ DE 0-1, DayZ DE 0-2 etc
