Should servers be allowed to run custom settings/administration like.. 24/7 day, no pvp, and all that other stuff we're going to see? It makes it harder for non-24/7 servers to attract players. It was this way with side chat in the mod. Rocket made the decision to remove it, but after a while servers who added side chat back in got more traffic, driving all the other servers to add side chat back in, because it was the only way to compete for players. Players are attracted to other players, so if the 24/7 day servers are populated, they're going to stay populated. That doesn't mean the people joining want 24/7 daylight, it just means they want other players in their server. Problem is server admins with no players see this and assume it's the 24/7 daylight setting that is attracting the players, so they jump on board and soon enough night time is a rarity. It's already happened, I haven't seen night in the standalone since the first day, because I filter for 30+ players. Do I always want to play during the day? semipr0 402 Posted December 29, 2013 As a former server admin both main and private hive myself...I can say, with a certain level of personal experience that I think for the game to stay valid, it simply cannot cater to the demands for custom settings. Custom setting servers should be allowed but they should only be allowed on private hive scenarios. They should not share the main hive at all in any form. Everyone has the right to enjoy DayZ as they want to play it amongst a like minded server community. But servers where the sun never went down and people spawned on the beach with custom load outs took almost as much away from the DayZ mod experience as the hacking problems the mod had did. Main hive should remain completely unadulterated, it should have a set of easy to understand parameters and none of them should change ever. Servers should not adhere to local server timezones either but should be run on a timezone heartbeat from the main hive itself. A realistic experience requires a realistic day and night cycle, not a system in of which if I don't like how dark it is I just have to switch servers til I find one running a different GMT setting. A realistic experience would demand I use a damn light if its too dark and assume the risks that come along with that. And to everyone that says "no one plays on night time servers" that only happens because server admins mess with their configs and there are options for playing on servers where its sunny out at 3 in the damn morning server time. If that wasn't an option...people would play at night because it would be a difference between playing and not playing at all. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

This is the minuscule percent of the population who actually voice their opinions and, if nothing, its more than clear a good percentage of the players are beyond retarded and don't really deserve to have their opinions taken into consideration. That is just the forums, now imagine the people who play the game without coming here or to the reddit sub and you are telling me they should have any influence over the global server rules. As far as I'm concerned if you want 24/7 day time play private or play on l servers in a different time zone but if you want to play the game the way Rocket intends it to be played then get over the fact that you can't just have what you want because it would be convenient for you. This is the time where the dev team needs to lay down the rules are start stringent enforcement of them or public hive will just be a big mess like the mod is. Great for all the kids and scroungers that don't work. I don't want to be separated just cause I want view this beautiful game for a bit at the end of a hard day. What if they setup hives for each continent, and then set it up so night time was 9-5? Should the kids and scroungers be punished by playing at night? That's not fair. But, I'm sure you'd like it. The players have spoken.Why do you think they are, imo only because the night time playing is paint atm for various reasons. If they fix those I think night time will come more popular. Also when the zeds are done and configured for night (ie mod behaviour), I would prefer the night.I agree with people saying that "standard" server should be with public hive and if you wanna make that "24/7 day, 100 choppers, spawn with DMR, +100 military spawns" server then its on its own database to not fukup the others gameplay.What comes to the timezone thing, its is complicated. I would be pleased with fixed timezone and shorter night/day cycle that people are forced to play in changing conditions. Not minecraft cycle tho... I think this game than take shorter cycle with ease without loosing any immersion or suchs. Even 4h day/night cycle could work on countering the fact that your char is able to run non stop around chernarus 24/7... scale the differens lets say.Im waiting for the day that you can see day,night, cold, rain etc with their unique gameplay aspects.
