The Mosin is the new Mountain Dew

  It appears that the Mosin is, for me at least,  this games Mountain Dew.   For me,  they are extremely rare and once I find one I am mere seconds away from death.  

 

  I have found 3 of them so far.  The first was in a TEC building in Cherno.  There was a guy about to pick it up and I startled him,  he backed up the stairs with his pistol trained on me and said, "Don't pick up the gun or I'll shoot".   I responded with, "I don't think you have any ammo.".  Turns out I was wrong as he killed me as soon as I picked it up.  

 

 The second one I found was in a hanger at the NEAF.   I dropped a fully custom M4 to pick it up.  As I came around the back of the hanger I saw a guy enter the ACT,  At first I thought he had not seen me so I backed up to take cover behind the wall near the industrial building.  After two or three minutes of observing the ATC with no movement it became clear that he had seen me and was waiting for me to make a move.  I decided to back off as I had no intention of killing him.  As soon as I turned around,  there he was,  he had ghosted behind me and shot me in the face.   

 

 I spawned in Kamenka and decided to run the coast all the way up to Berezhino.  Along the way I was able to get fully geared, M4 with all attachments and tons of ammo, full camo, food, meds, etc.  I ran into a few people, most of which were friendly,  traded some food and water.  Ran into one mad man with a bat who nearly scored a knockout blow on me before I dispatched him.  After checking out Berezhino I made my way back towards the NEAF and stopped at Krasnostav along the way.  I ran up into the school building up on the hill on the north side of town and there it was in the top floor small room,  my holy grail.  I picked up the Mosin while leaving my M4 slung on my should and equipped the long range scope and bi-pod that I had been carrying since Balota.  I loaded up 5 rounds and went out on the roof to have a look around through my new scope.   I stopped near the edge of the roof and looked over the NEAF and everything appeared pretty quiet.  As I zoomed out of my scope my character decided he had had enough and with no input from me,  ran strait off the roof and took a header into ground.    YOU ARE DEAD.

maybe you should try looting on fresh servers.

The Mosin currently nails 'the feeling'. Its rare enough to find occasionally, satisfying enough to use as your main rifle, and all around a rewarding experience to find. The way picking up an M4 feels now should be the feeling I get when I pick up a pistol, maybe a shotgun. The feeling the Mosin gives me should be global to every main rifle they plan on putting into the game.

 

Not only is it rewarding to find, its a rewarding experience to build up with scopes and whatnot too.

Wait for a server to restart, go to big hospital, find 4 Mosins. They aren't rare, you just aren't looking in the right places or you are arriving long after he good loot gets taken.

Just out of interest, how do i use the bayonet when i've attached it to the Mosin, and how effective is it?

I would like to know this as well.  I haven't really messed around with it.  I took the bayonet off simply because it made the rifle so freaking long, and I didn't want parts of my character clipping through walls and giving away my position.

Bayonets aren't functional at the moment, except for opening cans.

You can hold two rifles in the game guys, here's how:

Put one rifle in your inventory, make sure your hands are free, look at the rifle you want to take and select 'take into hands' option, tada, you now have two rifles.

The moment you take another object into your hands the rifle will be dropped, so make sure to pick it up, you also can't climb ladders without dropping it.

I've been a fan of the mosin since enemy at the gates released. Turns out, that's when I became a fan of Ed Harris and Jude law lol.

An excellent firearm, truly one of my favorites.

OT but i need a response ASAP: do the blurred screens stop after a while? I was hit by some zeds and was lagging too much to apply bandages quickly  :(

See,  I find the scopes quite often,  I'm almost always carrying one with me.   The rifle, not so much.  Everywhere people say to find them,  I find M4's.  M4's multiply like rabbits.

Plant yourself somewhere isolated, stuff food and water till you get the message that your stomachs is full,then sit with f3, restuffing every ten mins. Bandage and gobble some antibiotics if ya have em.

Should bring the color back and steady ya after some time.

EDIT: On my travels i picked up a defibrillator, is this only useful for reviving unconscious friends?
