Ponchos

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but it didn't show up in a search query.

Anybody discussed rain ponchos? They are pretty ubiquitous, keep the rain off and double as a makeshift tent.

There is a wide range of ponchos too. Super-shitty PVC yellow ponchos that people keep in emergency kits, to trashbags. Every military offers ponchos as issued gear, and they are usually nicer and more durable like the alpenflage ponchos. There are high end ponchos like the Kifaru Woobie or the Hill People Gear Mountain Serape, and the Smokin Kloke that have significant thermal properties.

 

This seems like an obvious item to include, has this come up before?

Ponchos do cover more than a raincoat does, so it would keep your gear and self dryer than a raincoat would.
