Any way to set Max FPS?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know a way to limit my fps to something like 30? I, like most everyone, have subpar fps even on lower settings but the real annoyance is how much variability there is. Mine will jump from smooth 50-60 to 30 -40 with a turn of the head and of course 20-30 in big cities.

I understand optimization isn't going to happen any time soon if at all and thought if there's any way to limit my fps to reduce jerky changes might help.

You can use the free version of dxtory, which has a frame limiter.  Actually glad you asked I have not used it for a while be nice to test it out.

in my opinion limiting fps to 30 is not going to provide u with the best gaming experience.

i know fps in arma (dayz) games can be somewhat of a roller coaster, but still if u can get 60 frames at least somewhere, consider urself a happy person.

You dont really get much more of anything with 60 fps over 30. And getting 60 somewhere than 45 or 30 in other places makes for even worse gameplay as those big dips are represented as terrible stuttering. Having your fps capped at a lower number than your max fps almost eliminates those terrible fps spikes and stuttering, which makes for a better experience.

And yeah dxtory is the best way to cap fps. Been using it for awhile. You can even create profiles for different games so that you dont have to change it every time you play something else.

Perhaps  this link will be useful... (keep in mind the game still needs to be optimized)

most of stuttering will occur regardless of fps cap, because stuttering is not simply fps drops, but "micro" freezes.

and 60 fps over 30 is a huge improvement, and even 120 fps over 60 will be an improvement (though by far less noticeable).

dont try to push that "eye can only see 24 frames" crap.

Im not trying to push anything. Just saying that having smooth low fps is 100 times better than having high fps with constant drops. Whenever youre playing a game its best to cap your fps at its most stable, not at its highest.
