Ghoy 0 Posted December 26, 2013 I've played a lot of hours in the mod but my biggest issue was the lag, even on a high end i5 cpu the game would simply drop in fps at the sight of three of more buildings. Cities were just horrendous to play in. Has this issue been resolved? I understand that this is alpha but lag was one of the most if not top most issues with the mod, considering the over-priced tag of an alpha buy-in, where does the game stand now when it comes to lag? Prolasis 1 Posted December 26, 2013 No not entirely. Currently the servers are on premium server hosting which are allotting allot of I/O and bandwidth. Plus i am getting little hiccups on my client side that show signs of some lag. Anything Arma will always have lag in large amounts of players. Its because its based off a simulation engine.

Thanks for replying,I know that this is essentially still running on Arma 2 engine but wasn't the point of the stand-alone release to modify the engine so it better suits the gameplay that we expect from Dayz? Also you mention that currently the game servers are being hosted on premium hosting, is this going to change at some point? I was under the impression that all servers would be official otherwise it's just a matter of time before 60% of playerbase starts cheating and hacking again. ☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted December 26, 2013 Lag is common. It seems like the "hiccups" described above are common. Sometimes it's worse than others.... There has been little/no client side optimization to date. I'm hoping that some of those coming changes improve performance overall. Currently I find the game enjoyable enough.... Watch some youtube videos and you're bound to see lag. Regarding hacks. They began maybe 48hrs into release. I personally have not encountered any yet but this may be because I avoid higher population servers that might be more of a target.
ClassifyLP 61 Posted December 26, 2013 Thanks for replying,I know that this is essentially still running on Arma 2 engine but wasn't the point of the stand-alone release to modify the engine so it better suits the gameplay that we expect from Dayz? The gameplay got wait better (e.g. the inventory feels much more intuitive). It's still in Alpha and we might see improvements in overall performance, but I wouldn't bet on that. Also you mention that currently the game servers are being hosted on premium hosting, is this going to change at some point? I was under the impression that all servers would be official otherwise it's just a matter of time before 60% of playerbase starts cheating and hacking again. While there are only "premium hoster" server right now, there already are a couple of them rented by private people. In the future, Dean wants to implement a private Hive system so none can abuse his private server.
Gerandar 212 Posted December 26, 2013 Well its an alpha so the net code isn't done being updated/worked on i'd assume. I've experinced some rubber banding/ghosting through walls(my buddy says I ran through the second floor of the ATC but on my screen I just left the room) and some stutters randomly but overall the lag isn't any worse then the mod
The_Gunisher 10 Posted January 5, 2014 Lag is a critical issue facing this game and Bohemia overall. Its something I really hope they sort out, but don't have a lot of confidence they will. This has been a problem with Arma II, Iron Front and Arma III and the latter even now with the full game released is still laggy which is cack for what's meant to be a finished product. Please before you open up the bomb bay doors to drop the napalm, I fully understand DayZ is an early Alpha, but one of the most fundamental things they have to get right is providing a smooth gaming experiance with at least 30 fps or preferably 60 fps even if you are in Cherno/elektro. If that means having less content and only 30-45 people on a server, fine I'll take that. All I want is for there to be a version of DayZ that works with a decent FPS, vehicles and working zombies. Anything else beyond that is ok, so long as it doesn't impinge on these basics.
Dchil 829 Posted January 5, 2014 There is no such thing as a lag free game.
AJ4211 30 Posted January 5, 2014 It's becoming a bit tedious going through all these "DOES DAYZ DO THIS YET" posts..It's Sweet-Alpha dude, don't expect ANYTHING but the bare minimum for game-play.In saying that, by no means am I spitting on the Sweet-Alpha, it is a damn good Sweet-Alpha. marsmars 155 Posted January 5, 2014 I think it also depends on the server? Though currently lag isnt so bad for me

I understand that this is alpha but lag was one of the most if not top most issues with the mod, considering the over-priced tag of an alpha buy-in, where does the game stand now when it comes to lag?I am running an i3 2.10 GHz processor and a PoS intel HD graphics card. By following the many FPS increase guides, I am able to play this game at pretty good FPS rates. (No FPS lag at all outside of cities, some lag but really not even a problem in cities/towns) If you're willing to sacrifice this game's graphics for decent FPS, just look through all the guides people have posted. Some of the key things I have noticed to decrease lag is:In the DAYZPROFILE configuration sceneComplexity=40000; After changing settings like this, make sure you make the config file "Read Only". DayZ likes to change these values around and send you back to your old laggy settings otherwise.
raynor009 204 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Yeaaah, DayZ is lag free alright. And there are zombies handing cookies at every street corner. Edited January 5, 2014 by raynor009

[snip] Yes it was, they are working on that. The development roadmap is going to be finalized sometime this month. So far they've lifted the Take On Helicopters branch of the engine wholesale, MacGyvered in different multiplayer code, though so far it seems like it can support less of everything than the mod so needs more work, and hacked in a new inventory system. Also some dude diddled with the old map in his spare time. Edited January 5, 2014 by Mookzen
daze23 549 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) "lag" has meant internet lag to gamers for about 600 years now, fyi. yep. it gets confusing when people call poor fps "lag" Edited January 5, 2014 by daze23
MystoganXIX 78 Posted January 5, 2014 "lag" has meant internet lag to gamers for about 600 years now, fyi.But when reading, he mentions "drop in fps" which will put those who read it under the assumption that he is talking about fps lag, not internet lag. libertine 351 Posted January 5, 2014 But when reading, he mentions "drop in fps" which will put those who read it under the assumption that he is talking about fps lag, not internet lag.My point is that lag has always meant internet lag for long time gamers who've posted about it and talked about it in that way for ages. There never was any "fps lag" until recently, probably from console gamers. Its trying to form a new definition for a commonly used term. Ill just start substituting the word masturbate for coffee, but i'll explain myself when using the terms.
