Real Time or Fast Time, but not both.

  1. 1. How should time work in DayZ?

    • Real time day and night cycle, realistically timed hunger and thirst.
    • Fast day and night cycle and you get hungry and thirsty at a quick pace.
    • I am fine with the current disconnect between game time and player's hunger and thirst.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to suggest something like this.

This has been bothering me since the mod, but in the standalone it has a better chance of getting fixed. Basically, I'm bothered by the fact that DayZ runs on a realistic 24-hour cycle, but our characters seem to need a full meal every half hour. This strangeness can be solved by either slowing down the rate at which players get hungry or decreasing the 24-hour clock to something less realistic. Personally, I prefer the first solution.

The first solution would mean we would have to eat less often. This could be balanced by making food somewhat more rare. Not so rare that it's extremely difficult to find, but rare enough that it's treasured, as food likely would be in a zombie apocalypse.

And while I prefer the first suggestion, speeding up the in-game clock could also work, and have some other benefits. I've heard many people complain that they only have the free time to play DayZ at night, so they're always in the dark in-game. if the clock was reduced to, for example, eight hours (four hours of day, four hours of night), this would help solve that issue. A faster clock might also result in fewer 24/7 daylight servers, as they would be less necessary with shorter nights.

I will vote for everything which makes DAYZ more like a "real life experience" even the forced FPS view.

(X) Real time day and night cycle, realistically timed hunger and thirst.

Well, while there are some real-life things that DayZ definitely doesn't need, I mostly agree.

Well you don't really get hungry 5 minutes after running do you you?

No I don't, because I am not already mostly starved and about to die from it most of the time. In SA you start out literally starving to death and a small can of Tuna isn't really going to make your stomach decide to stop complaining. If you eat and drink until you are actually full you can run around for at least an hour.

Food should be made extremely rare but that could be countered by making animals more common (later of course) so that hunting plays a bigger part. The game should not be made easier just to please those who want to camp places and not worry about finding food.

The hunger and thirst is realistic. It's based on your calorie burn and dehydration - just like real life. You are aware that not everyone eats exactly three meals a day, right? Some people eat more, some people eat less. Most human diets vary based on how much physical activity you do. So running for 10km straight, yeah, you're gonna need to eat and drink a LOT. Sitting all day, well not so much. Hunger is not based on a "timer."

The main problem on this vote is, that many people vote without understanding the current system.

You get not hungry all 5 min. Read some tutorials.

"Real time day and night cycle, realistically timed hunger and thirst."
A 24h hunt for one bean and one drink sounds realy boring btw.

I´m happy that the devs ignore such "votes"... :P

I am fine with the current system.

I take it you'd be fine with having to sleep 8 hours a day in game too? It's a game, we don't play it 24 hours a day. I'd be OK with slightly faster clock so that not every server ends up with 24/7 daylight but that's about it.

What I want to see is only one time zone for ALL the servers. When it's 7-8 pm all the servers should have an evening/night time, not only some of them. So if you wanna play DayZ after 8pm, you'll have to play at night or not play at all.

With minor food/water maintenance...HOURS.

I like the current system. Though, I wish you would get "server locked" so people can't server hop or try to find day-only servers

So  if you live in an unforunate timezone, you never get to see daylight in-game?

I like the current system. As others have already stated, if you actually eat/drink till it says you are "full" you don't have to eat/drink again for a long time.

US would have their own timezone, countries in Europe would also have their own. If someone from Europe wants to play on US server then he will have to play at night.

as much as i like dayz as a simulator i think a 12 hour cycle would be better and balance out the eating / drinking in a day better than the 24 cycle, leave eating drinking how it is, i think food / drink is pretty much perfect right now.

Edit i'd vote but theres no 'shorter time with the same food/eating rates' option.
