Unable to pinpoint where gunfire is coming from?

Recommended Posts

I bought a new headset today which I'm enjoying. I heard really loud gunfire at zelenogorsk today but I did not know what direction it came from. Then a minute later, i was dead. I think compared to the mod it is very hard to know where gunfire is coming from <250 metres. It sounded like it came from all directions. Maybe im the only one experiencing this... i dunno.

The best way to find which direction its coming from is to have 7.1 surround unfortunately. My headphones (logitech G35) have pseudo-surround sound and I can pinpoint it pretty well. Other than that, its pretty difficult.

Sounds is definitely messed up! I've never had such a hard time hearing where a gun shot came from until stand alone and it really throws me off. Sometimes I hear a gunshot from the opposite directing.

I've got a true 5.1 headset (not some stereo thing with software 7.1) and I had no problems pinpointing enemy fire, my buddys without such headsets had problems though.

Ive noticed it depends where u are. Sound bounces im guessing this is implemented in the game. Sometimes i cant pin point it. Then they or i move and then i can tell exactly where its from.

If there are multiple shots, try freelooking around using the number pad until you can find the exact middle of where the gunshots are. for example, if a guy was at my 3 oclock, I press 9 and the sound is to my right, I press 3 and the sound is to my left.

Sorry if that was confusing.

Welcome to the Real Virtuality Engine boys. It fucking BLOWS Major in 2 areas. Sound and Animation. I hate it. I cant wait till BIS uses that 15 mil to create a new engine from scratch. This thing is like 15 years old

As far as I know, it uses a modified system of ARMA 2's sound engine. Hence why it might be different now for some types of headsets. AFAIK my are working fine but it is not as directional as I would like it to be.
