Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

Recommended Posts

Ill always only use Skype, if this is added ill block dayZ from recognizing my mic hardware. I don't ONLY talk about DayZ and don't want my business elsewhere.

Well do you want a serious game? or a game you can play while casually chatting about your personal life not really serious about playing the game.

I mean when you buy the game it has a description, for example.

: Microphone chat always on. Be aware what you say, others may here.

A warning doesn't make something legal even if people agree to it.

When we're far away from eachother we setup a point to meet and then just talk about other stuff while we're headed there, occasionally telling eachother what we just looted on our way.

Have you checked out the controversy behind X-Box always having the mic on?

No? no idea there was one, live chat was always a massive plus for xbox live.

Yes. I want that game. DayZ is a game like that. I play it both ways. In fact I play games to "hang out" with friends that are now 3+ hours or across the country away from me. Since we can't meet at the coffee shop or bar anymore we play online.

Everyone does that when playing games. Forced comm all time through the game isnt going to work.

Ed: Plus hearing all kind of noises coming from surrounding players can be more annoying than immersive.

Its also network overload when there's 40 players in the same server

You won't ever stop people from chatting with 3rd party software. Adding this will make people search for ways to make DayZ think their mic isn't plugged in, which is easy to do.

Idk what you talk about with your friends online, but for me it's nothing personal. And it's not like the game would be doing it without you knowing.

I see. Perhaps this could avoid legal issues but not necessarily prevent players from feeling the game is over stepping its bounds.

Perhaps using encouragement to get the majority of players to use ingame void would be better as forcing it will cause controversy and not be guaranteeable.

i.e. making it beneficial to use ingame chat. Not sure how yet.

if it were illegal, Sony and Microsoft probably wouldn't have open mics on their consoles

that's like saying you shouldn't lock the doors to your car, because someone can still break the window. the point is you can take steps to prevent things, even if they won't work 100% of the time

although i agree it could be a burden on the network

That would place you outside the norm for online players. When I join PuGs in other games the players feel the need to tell me things I never wanted to know about them. I don't need to know that this complete stranger I am stuck listening to likely caught a STD from the last person they slept with. I don't care that their cat just vomited on their foot. Trust me, you are in the minority if you don't talk about personal things with people online, much less friends online.

These things only work in closed groups like ShackTac where they enforce it among their community and people will not abuse the system based on merit alone. It won't work in a game where people already are cheating by combat logging.

When you go outside and talk with a friend, do you have the same issues as this feature?

In real life you can't hear your voice through brick walls ~60 feet away when talking normally

Not to mention the grand "brb gotta take a shit cover me" or "hold on doorbell"

As soon as someone heard that they'd try and kill both of you

Although this is a realistic feature, it would be really annoying. I do not want every sound in my room (including music when I sometimes listen to it while playing) being broadcast to any person near me, that I might not even know about. Also, when I am in Skype and other people have all sorts of noises in the background (including over sensitive mic picking up keyboard/clicking/their game sound/shuffling in chair) it drives me insane. I do not want every person around me (and there can be quite a few if I play in a squad) to be broadcasting to me every sound they hear. I don't want to be looting a town and hear things I don't want to know about or hear lie someone going to take a shit or their dog taking a piss on him.

Plus, I do not only speak about the game on Skype. All the time playing, running around a field I might talk to people I am in a call with about anything. I do not want any random near me hearing confidential or personal info.

There is a difference between a game getting his source from non related software that runs on the computer and Microsoft/Sony

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the fact the consoles have a headset that has an open mic

So did the 360, but most people just used private chat. And then party chat was added which was better

It could be made so it's realistic.

Still wouldn't use it

Just face it, DayZ will always be a game and never be real life. Not everyone wants to play the game religiously like you

One way to force in game  talk is to remove the push to talk options in the game and have the microphone auto detect voice chat.

So if you choose to talk in skype or mumble or teamspeak you also do it in game.
