Iron Sights vs Hip Fire

Recommended Posts

I haven't done any experimentation as I have very little ammunition at any given moment. Anyone checked the difference between firing from the hip and using the weapon sights to see if there's a difference in accuracy?

Haven't checked.

However, you can zoom about 44% further when not using your iron sights. Go figure...

I noticed this to straight away the zoom while sighted is now automatic and comparable to Arma2's where as the standard view zoom is far stronger than it ever was in arma( i never played all the different dayz mods did any of them increase zoom greatly??

As for OP maybe its just me but i find that it still is much more accurate to aim fire rather than hip fire(its not really hip firing as it is raised to a shouldered position but i know what ya mean ). Although hip firing is not bad and more effective when speed of movement to hit multiple targets is concerned(again maybe thats just me havent measured it quantifiably just the general feel )

I'm curious to know if the cone of fire is larger when you're not aiming down the sights.

The little bit of experience I've gotten, aiming is very relevant it seems when you have a scope of some sort when distance is a factor. The short to medium range engagements (up to about 70 meters) don't seem to "feel" like the aiming is as important, which is why I'm eager to know if aiming vs non-aiming affects the cone of fire.

Any Arma players that can elaborate how it works there?

You can shoot more accurately while moving with hip fire.

But if you preferr to stand perfectly still during a firefight use iron sights.

If you get teh jump on someone then you should be shooting at them with your sights.

But if your getting shot, and you want to return fire, hipfire.

I don't think actual dispersion is changed at all. The crosshair just doesn't predict the point of impact as well as the sights.

If the dot represents the actual exact point of aim in DayZ, then a precise little dot probably isn't a good crosshair to have.
