I tried to be friendly

Recommended Posts

I've tried in the mod

I've tried in the standalone

But now I've become the people these forums hate.

I kill on sight almost every time

Whether or not someone has a weapon

It's just the way it has to be

Couple examples.

First day the standalone came out I saw someone bleeding down the road in Balota with their fists out. I went to help them but they started punching me. RIP to them.

Yesterday my friend and I were in zelenogorsk in the jailhouse and there was a group of 6 people. We told them to leave or else things would get ugly. All 6 of them lost their lives.

When I try to confront someone in a friendly manner yet cautious they combat log.

KoS is a essential part of the game. In a real apocalypse you wouldn't trust anybody because you could lose your life. In DayZ it's just the gear. So i don't understand why people want to have a "unrealistic DayZ".

Hahaha yes! i remember when i was at stage of game play.

You make many attempts to be friendly but usually most the time you get back stabbed over and over again!.. :(

Which violates your trust with all players hence turning to kill on sight. (Trust no one policy)

But eventually you will get tried of banditry for it usually isn't much of a challenge.

(Hopefully as i did) you will try to challenge your self by lessening your KOS and try to hold people for a challenge. (Obviously you having the Gun) (Guns in general strike up great conversations and make people comply most of the time.

I guess it's part of the dayz learning curve... I see it as setting an example if you are nice to others, you may give them another insight on how to play this game in a different way besides KOS mentality..

Hope this helps mate :D

This has been the case for me too. I think when anti combat logging features are introduced KOS will be less needed.

I've been playing DayZ for a long time, I know how it works. I've got way too many hours into this game for me to even count lol.

Rocket has already said combat logging would be addressed, before the alpha was even released by timers/cooldowns so when someone tries to logout while you're trying to be friendly they'll be vulnerable while you show them how friendly you are.

It's just not implemented yet.

Then I'm more than confident you will hopefully come to a conclusion on how to address your problem ;)

I don't see it as a problem ,just a choice of how I play the game :)

I will kill on sight if someone looks like they pose a threat. If they haven't seen me, or I'm able to get away without an incident, I'll leave it. If they see me first and don't open fire, I'm a little more inclined to trust them, but I don't stick around for too long for fear of them changing their minds! I was running out of Elektro this evening and just happened to look all the way behind me to find there was a guy chasing me into a barn. I had my gun drawn already, so stopped and turned around. The second I did this he started firing on me, so I returned. Managed to kill him, and then had a fresh-spawn try to pick up his gear, so killed him too. I have no quarrel with people wanting to shoot without interaction, it adds to the excitement.

I try to gauge them as best I can. If they have no weapon I'll try be friendly, or certainly let them pass without incident. You gotta mix it up a little!

Well as i mentioned previously you don't always have to resort to KOS.

It's just the way it has to be

^^^ No it isn't... I'm quite positive if you have played this game long enough (as you say so ) You would be aware of other alternate measure available.

I know how to play the game a different way. It just comes to the point where you want to be a bandit because that's how you learned.

Being friendly doesn't mean trusting anyone or helping anyone.

Personally I lay down my intentions quick and ask they do the same. If their story doesn't hold water, I decide if it's safer to just leave or if I need to kill them.

Every time someone has been honest with me from the start, they're honest at the end and we end up enjoying the encounter.

One of my best DayZ experiences was in the mod with a guy named Overwatch who stuck with me and my friend through thick and thin and ultimately succumbed to an infection. He ended it by thanking us for the experience, as he expected to be killed immediately, and wished us farewell as we put him out of his misery when no antibiotics were found.

Equally, once I ran into a guy who asked if he could join me when he had only an axe. We talked for a while and he lied about stupid stuff just to try and get on my good side. Obviously this guy was trying to tag along until he got the jump on me, so I killed him then and there.

_________

tl;dr you're doing it wrong and resort to the easiest way of play as a result.

That's more of an opinion than a fact.

Rare food --> people are hungry --> hungry people are aggressive

There are enough examples in the history that proves my hypothesis true. So ... why should the people change their attitude in a real apocalypse? This attitude is called survival instincts. Just believe me ... in a real apocalypse i will be a "bandit" and i will shoot people to survive.

You're a horrible person then and I hope someone shoots you back. It'll be funny to see how a 14 year old reacts to having a bullet in his guts.

Rare food? Think again.

About history - name this examples please, i'm sure you can find endless examples of surviving as a group or as community as well.

Let's pretend - zombie apocalypse. 95% of population is dead. Stores and storages in cities are full with canned food and cereals which are meant to be sufficient for the whole population. Same with med supplies. And goverment long storage facilities. The problem is not rarity but how to take that stocks, and it's not easy to take it alone. Hungry people are desperate, not agrressive. Oh, and yes - survival instinct tells you to seek safety, not to run around and expose your body to deadly threats.

You'll be a bandit, ok, good for you. A lone bandit trying to kill everyone on sight. You probably will last so very long.

Doing the siege of Leningrad food was rare, but people didnt kill eachother, they stood together to survive, there were some crimes to get food, but not many, alot of survivers said the people helped eachother rather then kill eachother.

I agree with you that people can be monsters in extream situations, but I don't think people would snipe eachother for a ghilie suit.

Best bet, loot a church an get that bible!!

let's say a zombie apocalypse is realistic. you need a disease like the plague in the 14th century + the comeback as a zombie. That means the person you meet could be sick. The disease is highly contagious and uncontrollable. ---> Avoiding people is normal. A lot of people would try to barricade their homes. What do they need? ---> Water + food ---> Do they have enough food at home? No ---> raiding the stores and storages is a part of surviving the early stage. After the ressources are gone, they have to search new ressources to survive.

It could be like a HI virus but it has to be deadly and highly contagious. Even if we say your scenario is true. The stores and storages are full with canned food. Let's say after 5 years it will be empty(depends on the count of the people who survived). What would you do? 3 hungry people but YOU found a canned baked beans. if its your family ... you would try to share but why should you share with a stranger?

horrible? - Morality is something that can change during the time (see Ancient Rome and slaves).

14 year old - Well ... prejudice isn't a horrible thing? "Every bandit = 14 years old" ?!?!?!

Not really, there is strength in numbers. If you see a group of 6 people walking around wouldn't you wish you have a bigger group or could join them?

Plus, seriously killing in real life is a lot harder plus you can react and do a lot more in real life than just stand there waiting for you to get your weapon from your back.

Yes, it's true ... killing in real life is a lot harder but pulling out a pistol or small guns can be really fast. If you turn 45° to the right, your right hand will be hidden for a person. (see US Secret Service)
