"Bandits" A rant about certain people

Recommended Posts

To be a bandit in DayZ may or may not employ a code of ethics or conduct, it may or may not involve killing people and so on and so forth but it does not involve shooting people without word without even seeing what gear they have on them or what their intention is.

Personally I only shoot without speaking in high risk situations (I have lots of gear and I see a squad of players heading my way and I can't escape in time./Someone runs into the same room as me with a gun.) I try to rob people and let them live with enough basic gear to make it to the next town. I like helping new players by teaching them how to loot and play the game. I like being able to kill other bandits who camp towns and shoot new-spawns.

About 10 minutes ago I was at the Pavalova barracks, it was pitch black, I had camo clothes and a gun, on my back, with an axe equipped. I came out of the barracks and looked around, saw someone running at the opposite side of the compound. He had a m4a1 too except he was clearly a new spawn as he had the newbie clothes on, I typed hello in direct chat and asked did he loot the food and if he did was any food left because I need some. He froze. "Oh good a player who knows how to type with his keyboard" I thought. Suddenly he swivelled around and sprayed me with his gun, I ran behind the barracks and typed out I am not trying to kill you in direct chat, before passing out I saw his wonderful reply to my plea which was, "lol ima bandit faggot lrn2play". I died whilst passed out 5 minutes later, turns out the guy didn't even loot me. He just decided to add another kill to his imaginary kill streak.

Oh god it begins.

This 'code of honor' bs ran rampant throughout the forums during the mod.

It's not your job or my job to tell people how to play the game. If I want to KoS I will, if I don't, I won't.

As it stands there is less risk to KoS than there is anything else. Until that changes, I'm going to survive in the most optimal way, which is mostly KoS.

I said some people have it some don't, being a bandit is not Kosing. That is being a murderer.

Also I said KOS is fine in certain situations but when a player can clearly shoot at you because you are in the open but instead says hey and asks a question spraying him and calling him a faggot is not being a bandit.

Call me a murderer if you want. I call myself a survivor, because trusting people in this game has a far larger chance of getting you killed than anything else.

I just flat out don't understand how shooting someone who calls out friendly is more fun than keeping them alive and doing bad things to them. Or at least pretending to be friends only to lead them into a trap or backstab them after a while. At least have fun with it for the love of god.

Thing is, it's still a game. And people want to have fun (and / or thrills).

You CAN shoot / swing at ANYONE you meet. Yes, you CAN, in some way it's part of the game. But that does not mean that you always ->should<-.

The "lone surviva rambo KOS dude" logic also can have some flaws, depending on the situation. Strength in numbers. You can achieve more if you have (competent) people with you. Obviously, in other situations, being on your own or careful can have its advantages.

It's wrong to claim that one side in general is the way to play the game or "right". Because it depends.

Because shooting them is faster and has less of a chance of YOU getting backstabbed once THEY get a gun or their friend comes along.

I feel pain of you OP

point is murder no talk is legit strategy :|

I know is suck when guy shoot you dead you don't even see him :(

you need accept this happen and don't make rage after

play stealth way, try to be first one who see other guy ;)

in real life situation when guys decide they kill for money or item of value they don't every time begin some conversation about if guy is friendly etc :D

example car jacker in Africa pull guy from car and sometime shot dead to stop witness :o

is rare but this shit happen and after apocalypse is happen more because SOME GUYS DONT GIVE FUCK >:(

Then don't interact with them. Run off and loot somewhere else, or hide and wait until they leave, or yell for them to drop their weapon and if they don't THEN shoot them because you know they have bad intentions. Blindly shooting everyone in a SURVIVAL game is stupid.

To you, it might be. But to me, it means free loot that I don't have to trek my ass off for, and it means one less person near me who could kill me.

I learned from the Mod if your around military sites your going to get a bullet in your brain, its part of the risk and reward scenario, You were near the barracks and so was he, You decided to be friendly and reveal your presence and he took advantage of it.

I'm really sick of KOS scum calling themselves 'bandits'. They are glorifying themselves so far.

Deathmatching is not 'banditry'. Anyone who thinks it is, is delusional.

What about adding some kind of ranks or upgraded version of achievments to the game. It would only be visual, no in-game bonuses other than maybe a cool mask. Ex. Rob 20 people without killing them - we become a Bandit, and other people can see our rank. Or if we kill more than 100 zombies we become a zombie slayer. If we kill more than 30 people on sight we become a murder.

This idea is just a result of desperate thinking of a way to prevent/decrease amount of KoS

What people did in the mod shouldn't really affect standalone after it has more features. The mod was a largely unfinished hackjob that suffered vastly from it's ArmA2 heritage. On there, deathmatching was rather understandable -- there was not much else to do. It even became the norm.

Now that standalone is upon us and the game may finally take the path Rocket wants it to, people should try and forget how they played it in the mod, and come up with new ways of playing. At least after some more features are in, as in the current version there's also remarkably little to do. Perhaps the community as a whole should pick up some roleplayer aspects into themselves, too. This type of games are much more enjoyable when you immerse yourself in them, as that's the way they're meant to be played.

PS: KoS deathmatching is not banditry. Banditry is killing a guy for his can of beans. Deathmatching is killing a guy just for the heck of it, then checking his corpse afterwards to see if he maybe had anything you might want.

 roleplayer aspects

Please no, I don't know how people can enjoy role playing games, It's just so fake and emotionless. I wanna play as who I am and do what I feel is good, not doing "what a guy in my situation would most probably do"

I did not mean it like entirely serious hardcore roleplaying. I meant just lightweight trying to immerse yourself into the game world.

For instance, when someone charges you with a shovel in Elektro, instead of not saying anything or saying "What the fuck leave me alone fag", you say something like "You've gone mad have you? So be it!".

It's not a competitive game. The aim isn't to hoard as much loot as you can and kill as many players as you can. The aim is to have fun, and the way you're "supposed" (as in, the reason the game is designed as it is is to allow for gameplay like this) to have fun in immersive games like this is to immerse yourself into them. I doubt a lot of people currently playing DayZ even know what that means.

We can play the semantics and moral highground nonsense to death (as if they hadn't been done already); point is, it's a brutal game, and KoS is just part of that. It's very risky to leave someone alive who has the means to kill you if you trust them. It's a survival game, that's part of survival. I'd never kill a bambi or even someone with an ax I run across and can easily escape, but if you have a gun or a big pack and I'm in need of something you're likely to have, I'm not trusting you, I'm taking your stuff if I can because that's the best chance to survive longer.

All posts like this say is, basically, "People who play that way are bad." Well, okay, they know that too, they like being the bad guy. You like to band up and be a good guy, you enjoy that so go play that way. It helps you sleep at night, so great! I'll light a candle for you in the honored halls of Valhalla or something while I dine on your beans.

Once the private hives are available it will just turn back to the way the mod was/is sadly.

More fun? Perhaps not. But it is certainly safer than giving him the chance to knife you as you pull out the handcuffs.

The way things stand, I will ALWAYS shoot on sight at an unknown. 90% of the time I try and act friendly or communicate with them, I get killed. So now it's either them or me!
