Atomic =HKC= 1 Posted January 12, 2014 In close quarters if an enemy suprises you, it'll be a bit tough attacking him with a mosin, that's where the M4 is effective, with your chance of survival is more.
Tizzle 90 Posted January 12, 2014 Anyone can run around Chernarus with an M4 and kill people/zombies, it takes skill to drop a target at 700m with the Mosin
ZlobaRUS54 441 Posted January 12, 2014 Anyone can run around Chernarus with an M4 and kill people/zombies, it takes skill to drop a target at 700m with the Mosin Depends on your play style. For me there is zero reasons to shoot someone from 700m. If I spotted them that far I'd just hide or run away.

Dr. Goner 661 Posted January 12, 2014 Me and my buddy are running with one M4 and one Mosin. Feels like a really good combo. I'm not a huge fan of running around with the Mosin on my own though, although I do like using it to scope out areas. I feel exactly the same way. I don't sit around waiting to snipe people, so the m4 is fine with me. I have hit someone at 400 yards with it. As far as one hit kills are concerned, that all depends on how low the persons health already is.
dragoman51 5 Posted January 12, 2014 best when you have half of your team equiped with a mosin and the other half with an M4give the m4 guys the revolver and the snipers a other pistol thats the best equipment ;)

Personally, I find going to an empty airfield and sniping zombies from across the runway entertaining, just to test myself and my accuracy

Anyone with a mosin I just think 'someone who goes looking for trouble'
YassirX 54 Posted February 4, 2014 M4A1Poor accuracy > 200m Maybe if you only fire from the hip...
teapot156 79 Posted April 3, 2014 The accuracy on the M4 is perfectly fine. The PVP in standalone even in its busted state is much better than the mod as a result. To kill an enemy you have to close width which requires more maneuvering than it did with the mod.I personally hope that the Mosin remains the only sniper in the game besides the KAR98 when they add it.Theres a certain demo-graph on here that thinks that having realistic weapon mechanics such as accuracy results in realistic firefights. They are mistaken and the reason why is in a combat situation people are inaccurate. To support this idea even more, DayZ is not a team deathmatch permadeath arma 2 scenario. Its a civilian survival game. Our characters shouldn't be able to stretch the AR platform out to 400 meters by simply pointing and clicking. The present designs put in place are fantastic and the near misses that occur when you are fired upon give you at least a chance to become suppressed. That in of itself opens up the door for fire and maneuver tactic that actually requires more strategy and ultimately, gambling.

You do know that in real life the m4 is nearly twice more accurate then a mosin right ?
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted April 3, 2014 Gtfo with that unrealistic crap. You do know that in real life the m4 is nearly twice more accurate then a mosin right ?I think once more assault rifles & bolt actions are added, the m4 will become accurate, and the mosin will become less powerful/accurate. This will probably be balanced out by the fact that military grades will be harder to find.

This will probably be balanced out by the fact that military grades will be harder to find. Let's hope. I was hoping since they added the b95 they would have gave that the ability to use the LRS and remove it from the mosin but that has yet to happen. Hopefully in the future. Mosin should only have the pu scope and mosin specific accesories no modern optics, bipods,.
teapot156 79 Posted April 3, 2014 Gtfo with that unrealistic crap. You do know that in real life the m4 is nearly twice more accurate then a mosin right ?I'm not going anywhere and I know exactly how accurate both weapons are in real life. I'm mostly speaking about the caliber type. A full sized cartridge is designed to go farther than an intermediate one.The present Mosin is more of a placeholder as an accurized rifle rather than an old battle rifle that gets passable groups at 100 meters. If they do add more long range rifles, I hope they don't outperform the design of the present mosin model that we already have which is effective enough as is. Spent most the afternoon browsing the forums on these two topics, and so far I'm coming up with some pros and cons for both weapons, but I'd love to hear your opinions on the matter as well. Mosin Pros Greater accuracy Superior range 1 shot kill (verify?) Cons Slow rate of fire Slow reload M4A1 Pros Fully automatic Easy reload Less cumbersome (verify?) Greater customization Cons Poor accuracy > 200m This is just a rough list put together after PvPing for the last couple days, and browsing the forums. It seems like it's more up to your play style. The m4a1 is probably the better option for close-quarters, urban environments, while the Mosin is your standard sniper I've also heard a lot of crying about the M4 accuracy, so perhaps that might get buffed in a future patch. The main reason I pose this question, is mainly due to the fact that you can't carry two rifles. In the Arma 2 mod, I would simply carry a sniper in my backpack. That seems much less feasible with the standalone, seeing as how much of your inventory is required for other survival related stuff. I don't think these should be compared side by side as they are two very different weapons in two very different classes. WrecklessMEDIC 129 Posted April 3, 2014 I carry both the M4 in my hands and the Mosin with a long range scope on my back. That way when I'm running around looting buildings I'm ready for some CQB in case I get jumped, but I've also got my Mosin for long range "scouting". :P
