I've found the final cause of KoS

Recommended Posts

Why is there KoS ? I've found the final answer. It's what makes DayZ "DayZ". Our only and main objective is to collect gear. That's why we kill people, to collect gear, so the truth is that KoS is just a faster way of doing the main objective of DayZ. (inb4 DA MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO SURVIVE NOOB NOT COLLEKT GEAR !!!111 -that's surviving) I'd really like to see DayZ as a game where your main objective isn't to collect as much gear as you can, but do SOMETHING with the help of your gear.

Thank you goodbye

I don't think KoS happens for the loot... It's for protecting one's equipment, but mostly for fun.

I thought the point was to 'survive,' not 'collect/horde gear.'

Do you have any idea how fucked this game would be if the devs suddenly started scripting missions & creating a linear progression for your survivor? Forget it.

I suggest OP you look up the meaning of 'sandbox' in a gaming context, & if you want "SOMETHING" to do with all your stuff: play with a friend, use the handcuffs, create an ambush, help freshies, hunt vets, set up a medical station, create a supply dump, role-play, wait for beta, or you could use your own imagination.

From my perspective if your killing blokes JUST for their gun, map, beans, whatever - you're missing the point of a vast and rich gaming environment.

In saying that however, it is a game where your human emotions can easily get the better of you, & if in real life you're naturally a non-trusting, paranoid shut-in then you're probably a habitual KoS'er in game.

Even the friendly and well-adjusted of us can turn to KOSing after one too many bad encounters.

There is no threat from zombies right now.  Therefore, all there is to do is run around looting and shooting.

Funny thing is, most of the time when you kill a person their corpse disappears.

If survival was all that mattered, you could easily find enough food and water to travel to a safe, remote group of buildings to scavenge food and water indefinitely, only being active in night without lights and being extremely cautious and stealthy.

How many hours of that would you endure before you got bored?

So, how does your theory explain the Electro, Cherno sniper or the lighthouse sniper or anyone that kills fresh spawns. Yes, some people do try and KOS to get loot, but a lot of people do it just because they want to. No system designed will stop them doing it, so I say why bother, let Rocket just build the game, fill it with lots of cool stuff and let us get to doing our thing.

Some people find it fun, of course.

Despite the danger, there's nothing I enjoy more in DayZ than an unexpected firefight. That's not quite the same as what the snipers do, but it comes from the same place: enjoyment.

I agree, put the content in place, and let the community do with it as they like. There's room for everyone.

What would DayZ be like without any firearms whatsoever? Not saying that should happen, but would there still be mass fire axe kos??
