Daemonkid 493 Posted December 21, 2013 My apologies, it sounded different in my head.
beardedcap 22 Posted December 21, 2013 You can eat far past the point where you get notifications. If your character is full you can go a pretty fair amount of time without needing to eat/drink. Find water pumps, and fill up asap. I also haven't had any problems finding food after dying the first few times and learning where to search. I'm actually very happy with the amount of food/water in the game. Medical supplies are hit or miss, sometimes I've found more medkits and antibiotics than I can carry, others I've been sick for hours searching for antibiotics and never found them. hogscraper 328 Posted December 21, 2013 I am quick to admit that I misjudged this game the same way as OP over my first few days. Not having any indicators to let you know how close to dying you are is definitely not helpful to new players. It takes some getting used to the fact that not only are you very close to death the moment you spawn into the game but you are never told this so its easy to die and not know why. There hasn't been any FAQ's or help guides in game or even a manual that tells you this so its definitely a harsh lesson to learn. While I like the brilliance of this game's devious nature it probably doesn't help the long term life of the game when people might just quit without never knowing how easy it really is to avoid these deaths. Harsh is good. Unbelievably harsh without an obvious reason is just counter-productive. My latest spawn has been shot multiple times, hit with an axe four times, hit by countless zombies and fell ten feet off of a roof. My chick probably has some gnarly scars all over. I was already at the Healthy state every time so I eventually healed from all of my injuries except the broken leg from falling. I assume it was a broken leg because I fell, but again, no feedback except my character hissing and groaning. I took some antibiotics, painkillers, vitamins and some charcoal tabs. Didn't know what would help so I became a pill poppin maniac for a few hours. At some point it started telling me that my wounds looked cleaner and I stopped groaning. I think everyone just needs to realize that the first hour is the most important. Get full food and drink, get your status to healthy and surviving becomes too easy after that. Spawning then jogging from Kamenka to the apartments above Balota and I died. Was at Healthy status once at Balota and jogged all the way to Lopatina, then north to the new roads, then all the way to Berezino where I doubled back to that small town NW of there. In that time I only had to eat a few things and drank a dozen times at every well I passed and haven't yet had it tell me I'm hungry or thirsty.
Virdrus 16 Posted December 21, 2013 U sir is a nice person "have my beans" I'm actully working on a guide, there is already plenty of guides out there and i agree with u that new players need a possible tutorial one where u get to know simpel knowledge of how to survive and what to look after. I'm sure Dean "rocket" hall have something in mind for this, but since its a alpha there is alot of other stuff to do before a tutorial can be made.
__redruM 7 Posted December 21, 2013 Can anyone confirm getting sick from well water? You are required to drink a LOT of water to stay healthy, and there aren't enough soda cans and purification pills to keep up. A new character has to drink like 20-30 times at the first well before full.
Frostbyte_ 44 Posted December 21, 2013 It´s pretty darn safe to drink, well worth risking minor sickness too.
Komalt 27 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Once you eat a lot and drink a lot over a period of time you will eventually get a status message in your inventory screen saying "healthy" this means, I believe, that you are full on all fronts and you won't be needing to drink or eat as often. Its very nice once you reach that point, this is your ultimate goal when starting a new character. Some tips to reach this goal is to drink a lot at wells. Keep drinking until you get a message that says "You feel really full" or something like that. Once you get that message you stop. Then a few minutes later make sure to eat a lot until you reach the "Your stomach is full" message appears again. Make sure not to eat or drink anymore for sometime if your stomach is full. Continue this process until you eventually get a message in your inventory stating you are "healthy". This signifies that your thirst, hunger, health, and blood values are full.
