I think the reason for the outcry against Nighttime

Wasn't so much that most people just wanted 24/7 day time or that they were noobs at night or whatever other silliness you want to come up with, but more that the first server the vast majority of players entered into was in nearly irrevocable nighttime, and stayed that way well beyond the average session.  So, when people were looking at the game for the first time, they don't even get to appreciate whats really great about it compared to the mod because they can't see half of what changed between the SA and the mod.  Many who didn't play the mod probably started to think that this is what the game is set in mostly, even though the game is almost never advertised as a primarily night-time setting.

The reason I personally hate night time is because the other people in the server have their gamma and brightness etc. settings jacked up so they're playing a completely different game than I am.  I can always do the same, but it's obviously an exploit and ruins immersion and furthermore, what's the point then?  Might as well just play on a day server.

I kind of like a full or half moon server, the full moon servers have a really incredible atmosphere. But completely dark, no moon servers are just unplayable.  Especially if you alert a zombie. The zombies have better vision than you, and you can't use any weapons against them without putting your flashlight away.  Also Try sprinting and the flashlight goes away too...

 

Is night vision in the game yet?  A good pair of night vision goggles would make for an incredable (game breaking?) advantage without even a half moon.

you do know the whole gamma/brightness thing doesnt really work too well on the current build though right?

With gamma and brightness maxed, I still can't make out anything, so I'm not sure that's much help. I seriously can't see anything except the skybox. A flashlight only helps so much, and tends to get one shot.

A little more ambient light, or improving the flashlight so that light diffuses realistically would help a lot.

Its not like when the server's went down and the page is being flooded with new topics every 5 seconds, so honestly get over it.   I will never understand people who get inexplicably annoyed by topics that aren't actually disrupting anything.

TBH I believe the foremost reason for the night-time servers outcry is thast people can't tell if the server is a night-time server or daytime server before connecting. I created an issue on the DayZ SA bug tracker. Vote up if you agree that we should be able to see the day-time on a server before connecting

And regardless, I brought up a point I haven't seen anyone bring up in the several topics I did read on the subject.  A point that does warrant its own topic because it gives a fair explanation that does away with the typical responses to people getting uppity about night time.

The gamma exploit is the reason no one likes it.

 

What is the point in night time servers when you just turn up the gamma like everyone else and you can see as well as daytime, if not better as players stand out more?
