This is a ZOMBIE and a SURVIVAL game.

Recommended Posts

I know this game is still in Pre-Alpha, and I know there are a lot of small things that need to be worked out.

The survival aspect of this game is brilliant, it is well thought out, and intricate. It does not take much thinking to see the vision behind the survival system, I know it has some bugs, but it will only be a matter of time until it is near perfected.

The UI is brilliant, and the addition of the animations. (I know still bugs, but you can get the jist of what they are trying to accomplish and you can tell it wont be long until they have them ironed out)

The point is, you guys have put so much effort into the "survival" aspect, that you have almost completely neglected the "zombie" aspect.

Yes, it is in alpha, I get that.

It's not so much the fact that the zombies have almost no work done to them, its that there is almost no sign that the group is trying to update them.

Now, I have given you guys the benefit of the doubt, there are a lot of things to work out, and you have a small team.

But at least show us that you are trying to un-fuck the zombie system.

I've noticed that I've never actually seen an massively online zombie game that could get the zombies correct, is it really that hard to get zombies right in an MMO?

If I could vision a perfect Zombie MMO, it would be the Medical/Survival/Nutrition system of the DayZ Standalone, the Vehicle and base building abilities from the EPOCH mod, and the zombies and zombie fighting from Left 4 Dead.

Does anyone else agree with my vision, or am I alone in this?

If you read anything of this game and its development, you would know zombies are a work in progress and they need to get a few things worked out before we have 1,000's of them on the map at a time.

"A few things worked out"

I have read up on a lot of the development, they are always very vauge on the zombie aspect, I know they are working on them, I just would like proof of progress.

You've obviously played the mod. You don't see a difference in the zombies right now? The animations have completely changed. They can run inside and go on the docks. New models. What do you want?

Reasons have already been stated as to why there aren't many and why they don't respawn.

Don't you think you need to have a stable server environment, stable UI, and not have to worry about your character getting stuck in places it's not meant to be before you have lunatic, 1 hit z's chasing you across Chernarus?

Don't make me say the A word. ;)

I agree that the zombies need more work but to say that they have almost completely neglected the "zombie" aspect isn't fair to say at all.  The zombie models look better, they no longer skip around in zig zags and actually run towards you in a way you'd expect them too.  Again I'm in no way saying the zombies are perfect, clipping through walls, floors, etc.  And they are too under powered and far too few, but I do see progress.

I actually was logging on to the forums to make a new post to report a story about a zombie that impressed me, but saw this and figured I'd add it here...anyway I was in some random town in the northern part of the map and was looting a house, when I saw what i thought was a player run past the window.  I got my gun ready and fired as soon as the "player" strolled into the door.  Turns out it was actually a zombie.  I was running when I got to the house, so I guess i aggro'd the zombie, but instead of clipping through the wall it actually ran past the window and into the house.  Not much, but it is progress!

More Zombies

Target delivery: Ongoing

We absolutely plan to have more zombies. To cope with the current total dynamic entity count of over 10000 we have had to make a great deal of optimizations. If loot is completely removed, we can easily run 4000 zombies in our debug builds. In the new year we will be optimizing the way we handle dynamic objects (such as loot) a great deal more which should give us significant savings - but the change was considered too risky to be done prior to alpha launch. If we had problems, we would have delayed the project further by months.

at first apologize my English... this isn't my native language.. .thanks

Yeah you often said you know that this is a "alpha" but i don't think you really know what a alpha is...

This what you know see isn't designed for "reviews" or somemthing like this (your post included).

Usually a Early Alpha isn't playable in the most games... and yeah you say they don't work on them 'cause you see no progress... that's irrelevant it could be you don't see progress till the Gold Status has reached.

About 90% of the game will be changed so... just wait till gold status and when then nothing changed... you can demand

I guess you weren't following the development pre-release.

The zombies are an issue right now. Currently putting more than a handful on the map results in the server being overloaded and starting to struggle. At one point they were planning on releasing DayZ without zombies, but managed to get them working well enough to include some.

Once they are improved you'll see a lot more zombies in Chernarus.

Even this post was vauge, the only thing it confirms is that there will be more zombies, I does not state any upgrades to the zombies.

Its true, that the zombies are waaay better than the mod, and even relating them to other large scale zombie games like WarZ, even then the DayZ SA zombies are better. To be honest they are probally the best zombies for any large scale game I can imagine.

But still.... it does not seem like they are putting enough of a percent of their effort into making progress on the zombie's.

Have you not noticed the massively reduced lag compared to how the mod was? They used to be lagging all over the screen, couldn't run inside, would chase you for miles, see/hear you a mile away. The zombie mechanics are greatly improved, yes they have work to do, but they aren't on the backburner

Am I the only one that thinks the new animations are kind of lazy and weak? The standing animation is the absolute same from the mod, the walking slow is ok I guess. The running? Its like I am being chased by a Gorilla, not a zombie. The jumping attack? Thats ridiculous.

I've played ARMA game long enough to know there are some SERIOUS limitations, especially in the anim department, but tell me how the ARMA 3 Mod Breaking Point has the best zombie animations for Dayz type variant to date? They look like rabid infected people. Jerking about in convulsive ways. They walk and and run like the infected from 28 days later. I really hope the animations aren't final.
