Vehicles

Recommended Posts

I forgot how much vehicles added to the immersion of Dayz.  Not just a simple way to get from point A to B but the sounds from one heard in the distant.

I loved creeping in cities and hearing the sound of a car coming only to hide and see what's going on.  Or blades from a chopper trying to scout an area and seeing how you can ambush them! lol

Looking forward to them!

I agree with the hearing distant vehicles adding to immersion and tension alike, nothing better than climbing the Berezino hospital only to hear a convoy rolling in - then let the games begin :D looking forward to a more complex vehicle system once it is implemented, though I hope vehicles are at least as rare as they were in early carnations of the mod

Ground civilian vehicles only. Nothing flying.

That would probably be best and most balanced, but I doubt it will happen. It would also be more realistic. Cars need very little actual maintenance to keep running while aircraft need a great deal. A diesel pickup can be run off of cooking oil with some modifications while aircraft tend to need specialized fuel.

I am eager of vehicles in DayZ again, some old derelict east block cars that are degraded and rusty,no fancy shining cars or sport cars, would love to see adding ons on cars for purposes in general ,even a meatwagon (med car) would be nice to use to treat people ,looking forward....

I like choppers but make them more "duct taped" together.  Maybe small copters and not military vehicles.

I'd still like a few helis. I know a lot of the general fanbase is excited for helis . . . and expect them eventually.

Finding and repairing a heli in Vanilla mod is the end game. For now, I don't think that is a horrible model to follow. But maybe make the repair and maintenance of a heli massively difficult. As Murcules points out, in real life maintaining a helicopter is a big deal.

In Vanilla mod it takes on average--1 survivor 2-4 days, 2 survivors 1/2-1 day, 4 clan a couple hours to get a heli up and running.

If somehow this could become a 1 month+ process, I'd definitely see some sunshine through this whole "no end game" issue.

I'm also interest in vehicules, and i wonder why it's still not in the upcoming features list  :|

anyway, i'm glad the helicopters will be much more realistic, and harder to fly

Those years spent on flight simulator will finally be useful :D

While it takes forever to find a helicopter(that isn't 3 klicks off the map) once you find it it takes whatever amount of time is required to run/drive back to your stash where you have a rotor waiting in the Mod. If it takes less for 2+ people it's because someone can drive the car back and you don't have to choose between running there or leaving your working car. :) I've been like, "OMG! A helicopter spawned in X." Hour later I was flying around finding and raiding everyone's tents.

Bicycles!

I hope the devs use bikes as the mechanic model for vehicles or at least treat them seriously and give them their own separate system.

And I hope they implement them soon! I love running more than the next guy, but just some bikes would be super nice.

The end game should be finding the cure  :D

My time frames are more for exhibiting the relative quickness but if they should be shortened than that further proves my point.

Just thinking, what if a heli had a component system of 25-50 different parts? It'd be amazing to see a massive component system for all vehicles so that hypothetically, one could build a vehicle from the ground up from found loot.

Well I love the part where I can take good care of my guy and he'll eventually fight off the infection. It'd be cool if your character could become effectively immune after a certain lengthy number of hours survived.

I've got it worse...

I keep *thinking* I hear a vehicle in SA and reflex makes me turn for cover :)

Well, in real life i'm not sure a lot of people can repair a chopper

but to build an entire helicopter from scratch, i'm pretty sure no one on earth can

He isn't talking about from scratch but from parts of choppers that are otherwise damaged. Take a panel here, a circuit board there, engine manifold, seat, control stick, and so on.

couldn't agree more

EDIT: jets and especially helicopters are exceptionally tricky to fly, probably less than 1% of everyone that has ever played DayZ knows how to fly either - and the character is YOUR character, not some yolobbqomg pilot.

I'm on board with the thread on helis, both in the sense of making them endgame and making them require a high level of skill to pilot well.

With the standalone we could use the new tracking of items system to make fixing a whirlybird up incredibly difficult without whole server cooperation. Making parts not a question of a rotor assembly but the rotor assembly: An item that requires a vehicle to move large distances (a player being otherwise overloaded if they try to haul it across the map) to deter server hopping hoarders. The server can always garantee that such an item is instanced somewhere on the map but would require lots of intersquad collaboration, bartering and negotiation (along with lots of intersquad infiltration, robbery and double crossing) to get all of the required parts in one place.

It would be intersting to see what time consuming and manpower intensive projects like this could do to redraw alliances and change player dynamics on a server. I'm imagining that a bambi, down on his luck could come across a vital heli part knowing that a squad was itching to find it, he could literally name his price for the details of it's location. Two previously warring squads could forge an uneasy alliance when they realised that together they had the parts they needed only to rob one another once it is airworthy.
